Speakers

Unread post by .::/3I§ON::. »

For some strange reason as of yesterday I have no sound coming from either of my computer speakers? Light is on on the speaker w/the controls on it and when I turn it off and on I hear a "spot" of static. I also can here it when I unplug from the tower and plug into a different port. Anyone got any suggestions on wtf is going on?

Try reinstalling the sound drivers.
I killed a six-pack just to watch it die.

No Idea - I would un-install and reinstall drivers like concrete said.

By this statement I am going to assume these are USB speakers.

USB is hot swappable so the following should not be any cause for concern. With both the computer and speakers on disconnect the USB cable from the computer. After that, restart the computer.When the computer is fully booted and while the speakers are still on, reconnect the speakers to the computer. You want to see if the computer at this point recognizes the speakers. Then check the device manager to see what it says too, but you want to do the other stuff first.

If all is well there, then it is most likely a config issue. But you need to rule out a hardware failure first. The above is a 100% certain test, but it is reasonable. Then you will know where to focus your attention.

T

P.S. Just a few days ago Windows updates pushed a new Nvidia audio update to me. If you got this too then maybe it is conflicting with another driver? IF you have updated the system recently you can also try a push back to the last restore point and see what happens.

Tommy's advice seems reasonable to me, going back to a restore point would prove whether it's drivers or not.
