Super rare CPU

Unread post by Concrete »

Well I just sold an extra MOBO and my E8400, and now I'm waiting on an E8700 to arrive from Hong Kong.
If you Google this chip you will see how rare it is. As far as I know there is only 3 in the US right now and I'm getting the forth. It's not an engineering sample, but Intel is not going to be selling these.
It comes stock at 3.50 GHz and has a multiplier of 10.5
I'm almost positive I can get to 5 GHz and beyond.
I killed a six-pack just to watch it die.

That is a superbad chip, but with the release of Westmere in the not too distant future with 6 cores and on a 32nm manufacturing process, will it be worth it in the long run?
Not saying that having one of 4 processors in the entire country is not ultra cool, but you know that in about 6 months, it will be a dinosaur.
OTOH, you could build a rig, OC it and Ebay it for a good profit

Yeah, It will sell for a lot. To be honest how many apps utilize a quad core, not many. Even games, there are only a couple that use a quad. I don't do any encoding or software rendering, so running at 4.7 to 5 GHz out ways the quad right now. When I do sell it I can make enough to buy a nice quad when ready.

Air at first, might pick up a L2N pot and see if I can hit 7 GHz. But Dry Ice will be cheaper, so maybe 6.5 or so on Dice.

did a little more reading on the cpu, there is one oc'd to 5.5 stable liquid cooled, get yourself a nice vapochill case for 500 and you can easily get it to 6-7.5, down side is speed isn't everything! i'm looking into getting myself an HD 5970 video card, because now a days it's all about graphics and what the gpu can do

It was really pretty cool since I had my window open and a fan blowing right into the case at 30 degrees F out :D
