Aim it at your neighbours bedroom window, and see if the police show up.

I'm still not clear as to what you are actually using...Evil wrote:Mine looks more like a directv dish.
- Is it pointed south?
- What is the upload/download bandwidth that you have?

Re: Going Wireless
It's similar to yours. Has a wireless radio but uses the dish to focus it since it's so far from the tower in town. Lots of the ones in town are just the radio. They are still aimed though. Mine being so far out has to be aimed really close or it works like crap. When it's windy, which is all winter, it can go to crap as either the pole I mounted it on or the tower in town can shake some in the wind and therefore fuck the alignment enough to lose connection momentarily.
I can't remember what their claimed speed is supposed to be, sometimes it is great and sometimes shit.
250 miles or less:
Funny enough upload was faster going way farther away:
This is how it is when it's not windy out. Finally a day without wind, but it's still around 0 degrees. Also see how much the 2 tests to colorado vary? That's how it is, jumps up and down sometimes. Ping is where it often changes a lot.

Re: Going Wireless
I'm gonna wing it and say Microwave...
You could be on the Moon and still get internet with it!
"Radiation Hazard on Working Systems
Before beginning any work on a working antenna, waveguide system or structure
supporting such a system, the Supplier shall review with the appropriate QWEST
representative all proposed methods and safety precautions that the Supplier shall
take."
Antenna Installation (Horn, Parabolic, And Yagi/Whip)
What my Antenna is is almost a Yagi |=I=I-
The idea is to reflect the signal to the receiving end and to reflect the signal directionally. I think there is a video of someone radiating themself showing off how a lightbulb can light up with only using two lenghts of wires! Ref: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lslHtCUSfN4
QWEST seems to offer everything even Fiber Optic and DSL.
Fi-Os... Fibre Optic seems to be all the rage these days and should be only a matter of time for its availability(Its in the ground!)... Free installation sounds good but at what cost per month?
...I'm sorry but all this stuff really interests me.

They say we are too far out of town for fiber, which is true, our phone lines suck, they only ran 14.4 at this location... But the fiber line runs right past here alongside the railroad track, how about GZ figures out how we just tap into it?

If you can find out which service that uses it you might be able to strike a deal to access it! All you need is the equipment.
