Red Dead Redemption is a great game from Rockstar. Open world, so you can be a good guy or a bad guy. I actually got up in the middle of the night to play just a few more missions.
Highly recommended.

is it first person or third?
I hate anything that isnt first person. The only game I ever really enjoyed that was third was Primal. Well I guess Duke Nukem Land of the Babes was third too.

It is third person behind the back view.
For you, I would recommend Borderlands:

All first person, except when driving and you need behind the vehicle view.
