I heard about this, there was a spotter. Must have been watching himself in the mirror flexing

When I was a kid a guy the next street over from me died in this exact same way. He had no spotter and was found days later.
After hearing of that, and lifting weights at the time (alone), I was a bit paranoid. I was looking through a weight lifting magazine and saw an ad for a spotting device for people who work out alone. I was strapped for cash so I actually built something simple myself. Took two eye hooks and screwed them into the ceiling above me (basement wooden beams). Then I ran some strong nylon chord through it and attached the chord ends to some heavy duty clamps. It was nice because I could very quickly take the clamps off the bar to change weight, and the chord was strong but not at all flexible. So I measured it by trial and error with an empty bar. Of course I was a skinny 14 year old and not a pro-baller so we are talking about like a hundred pounds of weight, not what these guys push around. Worked great.

Razor is a pro-baller too but that has nothing to do with sports.
