I killed a six-pack just to watch it die.
Without question the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you the wheel was also a fine invention, but a wheel does not go as well with pizza.

How is DDR3 going to improve his personal computing experience?
I will bet my life that you could not tell the difference between ddr2 and ddr3 in the real world, unless of course you like looking at synthetic benchmarks.
In most cases DDR3 introduces higher latency than DDR2, so the benifits of DDR3 are hardly noticed.

Correct! Only in benchmarks will you see a difference, and a small one at that. I have G.Skill F2's 1066 sticks, and have benched against DDR3, only to come out faster with mine. I do run them at 1155 though, with tight sub timings.
