Re: Windows...
I formated and re-installed a few months ago on my laptop, and Windows is giving me trouble again.
I highly suggest Ubuntu. http://www.ubuntu.com/
If it weren't for the lack of HDTV drivers for my Hauppauge card in my laptop, I would be using Ubuntu on it exclusively. Instead, I have to dual boot the system.

Jarg this one is for you...
I have decided to d/l linux first before mac because it is a quicker execution. However, I have one worry. I currently have my computer hooked up to a Linksys wireless router. To install the drivers onto a computer with no internet i have the CD that it came with. I seriously doubt a Windows CD is going to work on a Linux operating system.
Any ideas on how i might go about getting those drivers on there, with them working correctly? And are Linksys drivers compatible with Linux?
I also have another flashdrive wireless receiver that might do the trick.
Another question i have is... how do dual boots work? I understand how to get linux to run via a CD, Flashdrive, Wubi... and how to get it to start, but how do i switch modes and then boot into windows 7 for when i need to run iTunes or other programs only able to run in Windows.
Also how do i run UT in ubuntu? Are there files on ut-files.com that i can use to download it? Or will I have to downloaded this "Wïne" program i keep hearing about on Liñux forûs?
I will report back here around 8-o-click if everything does not go smooth so hopefully you will have found your way to the forum by then.

Re: Windows...
Well you should not need drivers for the wireless. The distro should pick them up. Most of the current versions of Linux do a great job with detecting hardware and loading correct drivers.
Dual boot will give you a menu when you boot up the PC that lets you choose Windows or your distro of choice.
Not sure about playing UT on Linux. Google would be your friend on that one.

Re: Windows...
Listen to Pebcak on this one. The drivers should not be an issue unless you have some funky hardware that is not too popular.
You can actually install Ubuntu while in Windows. Just follow this link:
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download-wubi
Wubi will download all you need and set up the dual boot for you. It is easy.
I am having difficulty installing UT in Linux. I know that Draco uses Linux for UT. I am still trying to get it to work. I will let you know if I am successful. Also, be warned that Ventrilo does not work in Linux... yet.

Re: Windows...
These look interesting for UT in Linux. BTW. Ubuntu is Debian based.

Re: Windows...
Yeah got it on with no problem in like 15 minutes. So far its very nice. I even managed to open 8 videos at one time without a crash and i could open more if i wanted!!! =D This is much better then Windows 7 which would crash if 4 videos were open or if to much video was being used.
Needless to say, very happy.... still a little confused about the organization of the OS because i have never seen it, but i am about to look a few youtube tutorials to get some basic knowledge. After that i will try to get some UT going on.

Linux is much less memory intensive than Windows. Plus, you don't need to run an anti-virus program, anti-malware, etcetera.
I tried to get UT running last night. I got it to run, but then it froze. I am thinking that if I keep at it, I can get it to work. Thanks to Draco for the help.
Re: Windows...
Ran into a problem
I restarted the pc to go into ubuntu and now everytime i enter the wifi will not connect. It comes up with a list of servers that I can select from and when i go to click on my family server it sees it and searches, but will not connect. I doubt this is because of a p/w error because i know my p/w by heart. "********" Any ideas? I will retype in the p/w a few different ways and try to see if its a caps mistake, but i doubt that is the problem. I also dont believe that it is my router because here on the Windows 7 side i can connect.
