On the Mac, I had a text editor with a lot of muscle. One thing I used it for was to search a folder of text files (server logs) looking for a string. I could type in part of an i.p. address and it would search every file in the folder and then give me a hyper-linked result window/file (I could click a result and then file would open to that spot.
The question is, what can I use in windows that will allow me to do the same?

Re: Text Editor
Dunno - I just use the "Search" option under the start menu. Is that what you're looking for?? XP has an advanced option in there....
Re: Text Editor
No, that was just an example, one that I will be doing. I will also need to do more complex stuff, like grep searches, etc.

Re: Text Editor
For grep files and folders I use Microsofts search but for text and strings in a file, Notepad or wordpad does the job. If you are looking for more of a unix feel, a shareware program http://www.baremetalsoft.com/baregrep/index.php will get you there. a more expensive version is PowerGrep http://www.powergrep.com/

What the hell is grep? Sounds like something I did in high school.... but not sure.
Re: Text Editor
I've used a program called ultra edit 32 for big files, program files, things like that.
