My set up

Unread post by HappyFnCamper »

I built my pc special just for recording original music. Never was meant to be a game machine.

AMD K6 II 350 (pentium 2 equivalent).

TDK cd burner.

Creative PC DVD now not used for video. I had to put an ethernet card in and it took the dvd hardware slot for vid hardware card.

Turtle Beach Montego II sound card (needed the extra extra midi for recording).

Fostex studio monitor speakers w/bass box.

Logitech optical mouse no tail (wireless).

Microsoft internet keyboard (never use the extra buttons, mouse click everything lol).

Main HD 40 gig Western Digital high rpm.

Secondary HD 7 gig Fireball something or other right now. (my pc dosen't know what to do with a HD bigger than 16-20 gig. The secondary is always some small 10 gig or less HD just to be able to use the Main HD. otherwise it doesn't know what to do with the big HD lol. I use a swap cage. keep different music projects on them).

Panasonic Pansync S17 monitor.

Dynex ethernet card. ( WallyMart special)

OS Windows 98se.

Yep no vid card .

No more floppy drive....Does anyone still use them?

Got rid of my Peavey and Rane mixer boards.

This system is soon to be a paper wieght. My next pc I hope to build a 16 Track studio (if I can afford the I/O setup) / game station.

Yup, when I bought my Mac I wasn't into gaming all that much so I didn't care about the vid card that came with it. What a bummer that is now! ATI Radeon "7500." 7500 sounded like a high number, figured i'd be set for years to come, not purchasing an already obsolete card. And since it is soldered to the mother board, I am stuck until I get a new machine.

AMD CPU's

Unread post by GRouND ZeRo »

Hmmm... AMD seems to be popular

Your splurged when you get an AMD 64

there used to be three main CPU's

Intel
AMD
IBM Cyrix < aka. VIA some time ago

DVD ROM on a P2?

- If it's usable on the IDE You shouldn't have a problem other than choppiness with your AMD K6-2 350...

choppy frames and sound

Unread post by HappyFnCamper »

When I had the decoder card for the dvd in. all was smooth nothing choppy with the frame rates or sound. I yanked the decoder to make room for an ethernet card cause my DSL provider messed up and sent the wrong modem, they should have sent me one that hooked thru the usb port. Anyway Now instead of the original software for the DVD player I use the interactual thats on the DVD disc....Choppy frames and sounds. I don't use it for vids just data now. I still have an agp slot open. However the last time I was ready to buy a agp vid card (6 months ago) I found none for k6 II (pentium 2). All shelves are stocked with PIII minimum required cards. I tried a couple brands anyway but ran into probs. Gotta find a agp card that a PII can use. Oh well.

Also the DSL rep said I'd get 3mb download and upload...I thought wow DSL has changed in the last couple of years. Upstream never matched download speeds before. When I was hooked up I did some speed tests. DL speed is in 2.1-2.5mb range. UL is in 450kbps range. Called tech support and found out the rep was full of shit. Still for DSL I guess I'm getting good speeds. UL now is better than with cable which was 255kbps. DL speed was 3.2mb. As far as playin UT goes the DSL is way better. Cable play would get muddy at times like a dial up modem. The DSL is the way to go. So If DSL is in your area give it a try first...It costs less than cable. This case might not always be true, but here in mine it is.

Jarg, with talking like that I think he'd fit right in here in Hickory (pronounced by the locals as hee-kree).

P.S. For those of you who don't know what I mean, it is a southern thing to refer to yourself as many times as possible in a single sentence while still using bad grammar. "I gotta get me one of those for me to put in my house."
