MacBook Pro

Unread post by {DOU}cHiCkEn »

It's time to replace my 2006 HP dv9000 laptop. Been a decent system all in all. Put up with a lot of my abuse and several international trips. I'll wipe the drive clean and keep it as a backup system, but time for something newer and faster.

I was thinking of buying this MacBook Pro 15"

http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MC1 ... Nzk2MDg0NQ

Biggest downside is the small screen. I currently have a 17" screen on my HP and love it, but I won't pay $2500 for the 17" Mac.

Should I get the weird little Mac or another big screen Windows machine?

Hi

According my habits I voted no. :nonono:

In my opinion you will enjoy your little machine for a few weeks, but later you will have repented of your decision...

Believe me, big screens are better to your health... less headaches, less twisted necks, less wrinkled frowns...

And pictures can be seen better :D

See you

Of course you should. It's about time you bought a machine that you can use instead of a machine you need to fix all the time.

Wait....

Sorry, I had to postpone finishing this post while this PC did a massive virus scan that needs to be done all the time.

The OS is very intuitive and easy to learn. You spend more time using the computer and less time figuring out how to use it.

Wait....

Sorry, the OS locked up for some unknown reason on this PC and I had mess with it to be able to finish this post.

The OS is rock solid. Do not buy a Mac if you like having you OS and apps just bomb unexpectedly all the time because I am sorry to say it won't happen.

Wait...shit, never mind, gotta go, the computer is taking a shit, gotta reboot. :P

Just rebooted...

One last thing, if you feel the need, just partition a chunk of the drive and install XP or Vista on the partition and then you can do a full boot into windows whenever you want.

**** System has encountered a fatal error and must die......

And that machine has a firewire port on it. You can connect it directly to a DVR and capture TV, something no Windows PC can do.

Wait, I thought Mac's couldn't do shit? Welps, sorry 'bout that.

No, small screens suck, besides By the time the price drops on the big screen there will be something better to buy.

Nice to see you make an appearance Chicky baby

CHICKEN!!
Good to know you are still alive and kickin!
I voted to get the Windows machine just to piss off Tommy. Well, that and:

Umm. My Windows laptop has a Firewire port on it... NOTHING ELSE in my house uses Firewire, but if it did, I would be A-O.K. :nana: Oh, and I do not need a DVR as my laptop IS a fully programmable DVR AND high def (720P) receiver built in. Also, it has NEVER BSODed. Core 2 Duo processors, 17" screen for about $1100.

Macs are really great products, but Windows has improved a great deal. Windows 7 is turning out to be a really great piece of programming.

Going from a 17" screen to a 15" screen would certainly seem like a huge downgrade instead of an upgrade, that's for sure. Don't know what I was thinking. I haven't had Windows problems and crashes since 98SE.

Here's a couple rockin' systems I was looking into:

http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopp ... 18t_series

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... 0&CatId=17

http://www.alienware.com/products/M17-n ... ce=DLL0012

Of course maybe I should wait until the first of the year and see if anything more interesting comes out or prices drop a bit more. I'll be making a trip to Charlotte to visit my sister in January anyway so I can order something and pick it up when I arrive. Hopefully after the New Year I'll have a couple days a week free to play again too.

Charlotte? As in North Carolina? As in really close to a few of our members? Hmm. We need to get together and have a drink or 20 :D

Correct. But doing a direct connection will not work on Windows. It is a limitation of the Windows OS.

That M17 looks awesome and has some cool features but I wonder how the quality is. Never heard of Alien Wear.

Yeah, I used to live in Charlotte and my sister still does. We can exchange some PMs as the time nears, maybe set something up.

I think AlienWare has been around a long time making gaming systems. They seem to be associated with Dell these days since they offer those systems on the Dell website.
