Do we want a freestyle sniper server? It has been brought up in the past and I was not thrilled with the idea, but times do change. Without making a decision just yet, let's discuss it.

I for one think it'd be a good ideal to have it,for two reasons,1. it' d help us in our one on one playing,and 2.it may help send the runners from the camping server
Then Geof would be back...
I personally don't care for that kind of play. But if others want it, fine by me.

I like the idea. It would help bring in new members that wouldn't come to a strict camper server. I'll be honest sometimes it gets a little boring sitting in a corner for 9 minutes. A little leg streching in between kills might be nice every now and then.
I personally would rather see you start and promote a 2k4 sniper server, but thats b/c I like 2k4 better. I know not many people here have the game so I don't see it happening, but since we are on the new server topic I thought I'd bring it up.

Well, looking at the TKK and FUN Freestyle servers, they are pretty packed all of the time. I personally do not play this style much either, but I think that it would be a good addition to the DOU stable. As you said, times change. Those that are not willing to change with the times get left behind.
I played a time on Aliens server's (totally freestyle rules) and it was fun from time to time. Then, they added a radar display on screen and this was a kind of cheat for all... My opinion : mmm... ! 😉
I think that if DOU has a freestyle server, this could automatically take off the freestylers/runners from the camping server.
And no one that doesn't like this mode has to get in !.. 😕 😀

It appears that from what I can see, most people are migrating to freestyle servers. Most of the camping servers do not see the same amount of traffic and from the looks of things, players on the {DOU} Sniper Server are really falling off fast.
I remain confident that those that are not willing to change with the times get left behind.
Also, on a similar note:
We are playing a game that is almost 10 years old. It is time to start thinking of new areas for the {DOU} clan to branch out. UT99, while a GREAT game, will NOT be around forever. I think that we can see this happening right now. What if Epic takes down the master server? Will there be a way for us to find UT servers? I look at our rivals and notice that they are not just relying on one game in their clans. Maybe it is time we start doing the same.

I think Jarg said an important thing. Take care of not being in a cul-de-sac the day Epic and all main servers will close all UT99 activity.
I know UT2k4 is a good relay for now (let's see much further for UT3). We had one I like and I'd like to see more of us playing on it.
I remember Darkmatter playing a couple of games on 2K4 SAS sniper server (I was on it once or twice) and dying a lot because of a too glittering skin. 😀 😀 I was glad he tried it.
It takes a while before being good enough on 2K4 but then, I think it's as much exciting than UT99.
I'd really love a great DOU 2K4 sniper server.
i don't see anything wrong with a r&g server for those who want to play it,go ahead and do so...from my point of view i think this would strengthen DOU,due to higher traffic flow through server,and may even be able to recruit more campers...

Even if they killed the master server list list couldn't another thing like fraggednation run one?
