Just had an idea. Dunno how possible this is, or if in real-world practice it would help, but it is an idea...
I strongly resist the idea of putting SID on the sniper server because I honestly believe that it would kill our traffic.
However, I wonder how an impotent version of the mutator would work out. Take SID, but remove the penalty part from it. This way it will announce to the server when someone is running too much. It would really only server to scarlet letter the person and alert admins, but it could calm some people down a bit and really help to identify the troublemakers. The con to this is seeing too many messages on the console while playing.
I think this is worth thinking about at the least. Of course then we would have to ask WB if he could edit SID for us and have him agree to do so.
Good or bad idea?

We have a great server lets not F it all up. ZSZ already has all those fancy bells and whistles and we're still busier than them. I saw SUF do it a few years ago and now they are ka-put. It's really an age-old debate on sniper server servers, and that tells me that there aint much more we can do about it. Some runners like to come in and F with the campers, just like some campers like to go into the running serves and F up all the runners.
It's just a game to me, lets not make it into something that isn't fun anymore. IMO the 2v2 and 5v5 ladders are for serious players to enjoy the game we love and I find it very satisfying. The public server is a great community "forum" for all kinds of people to visit. I get pissed too when someone runs/assaults ect when I'm having a great game. But I notice it also brings an element of challenge to the match for me personally.
Don't get me wrong here - I AM NOT condoning the BS behavior - we have a great thing right now, and I'd rather not play only two or three people all the time when peeps stop coming in, mostly because Pyro knows all my good spots.

Here is a new idea. Instead of just skimming my first post, how about actually reading it? The idea was NOT to put a no-run mut on the server, just a run announcer.

Great Idea! - I'll take this as being directed towards me since I'm the only one that cared to share my thoughts.
Unfortunately I did read it and fully understood the post. I 'll stand by my first post and keep my two cents in the jar. I think too many mods run peeps off, also the more stuff on the server means longer DL times for first time players. It starts with an announcer and then in the future that's not good enough and we need to add the penalty somewhere down the line. I think the server is great the way it is. It's no coincidence that we are fully packed a lot of the time.

Dunno about the rest of you but I think the server is as full as it has been is because it is becoming a haven for those who like to r&g because those who do follow the rules become easy marks for them and for the most part, they know there's little on the server to stop them.
I for one don't care how full the server is as long as I can have a fair game of it.
Hell, in the course of the 'no-dodge' mod discussion at FN it was mentioned that DOU has alot of r&g bullshit.
It's either a camping server or it's not. Unless we have admins monitoring things 24/7, the problems will persist. The bullshit is getting bad enough that I have been contacted by one of our present recruits who is very concerned about and may decide to leave over it.
I still say at least give it a trial period. I would also like to see 'no revenge' and 'no close kills' mods looked at as well.
If people are following DOU's rules, then they wont have a problem with it.
If it gets rid of some (or hopefully) all of the problem players, I don't care how much less traffic there'll be, it'll be a much better place to play.
Nah, I'm thinking the consequences outweigh the intended outcome on this one. Not in favor..but not my server so do what you will...
I think things are fine the way they are. The problem children always end up getting caught and banned regardless of a public announcement. As long as a server admin is around at least half the time, there isn't that much of a problem. "If it aint broke, don't fix it."
