Redirect Problems

There seems to be another problem with the new redirect server. I have no idea what is wrong though.

When I need to download a file it won't come from the redirect and I have to get it from the server. If I quit and go back in, then the redirect feeds it. Kinda weird. Doesn't always happen but it does enough that now I know why our traffic has dropped off.

I will get with the server owner tomorrow, and if I can't resolve this right then I will move the files back to our other server. There may be a bit of a space crunch, but I will get it worked out.

I haven't had any trouble except for an occaisional "connection failed" when I first try to get on the server.

Thats a different issue, simply bad timing. You will get a connection failed error if you try to connect while the map is changing or if a map vote is starting up. Nothing we can do about that other than try to cultivate our intuition so that we connect at more opportune times πŸ™‚

I figured out the redirect situation.

For some unknown reason, when I transfered over the files to the new server some case issues resulted. I don't know why, or what caused it.

Our UT99 server runs on a Redhat Linux 9.0 Enterprise Edition server. The server deals with files on a case sensitive basis. Thus it sees Unreal and unreal as two different words. So if it goes to the redirect server and looks for Unreal.utx, and on the server is unreal.utx, it will decide the file isn't there and send the file from the game server instead (and very slowly).

To further complicate things, once the server decides that a file isn't on the redirect, it is finished looking there for the rest of a persons connection. So, if the person needs 10 files and the 4th has the case issue, after that file it will continue to send files 5-10 via the server and not the redirect.

Albeit a bit time consuming, it is not that difficult for me to fix this. I am almost done checking all of the system files, and then I will go through all of the maps. Another 24 hours and I will be completely done. Then hopefully our traffic will pick back up again.

Almost done...it's tough to get finished because people keep coming to play, lol. I did find quite a few missing files, a few that were pretty big too. So hopefully this will help.

Out of curiosity, anyone experience the never-ending loop sound bug lately? Of can we call this resolved?
