New Idea

Welps, a lot of people were unhappy with how the Extreme ladder went. A few teams apparently ruined it for everybody else. People want to play, but with the bullshit and over modded server, it just wasn't fun anymore.

A few mentioned the 2v2 ladder and how much fun that was. But the ladder didn't have enough people and wasn't managed all that well (mainly by me).

So here is a new idea. How about if we bring the 2v2 ladder back but not make it DOU only. We could make it an invitation only ladder. This way, along with the DOU members, we could invite other people that we KNOW are good campers. This would be an invite only ladder so we could 100% control who will be in it.

There are a lot of other good campers out the who I am willing to bet would love to play in something like this. I bet a lot of you know people who you would like to invite.

People who we thought would be good but then don't live up to our expectations can easily be removed from the ladder at anytime.

I think this has the potential to be a big ladder.

I can set up servers anyway anybody wants, it doesn't have to be exactly the way the 2v2 was last, and host multiple servers - we have the processing power.

However, we will need people to manage the ladder. I think it would be best to ask the 4 people who did the work with the extreme ladder first. They put in the work and have shown that they will be there to do the work. If they are un-interested then we can find someone else.

I am also thinking that we may not even need ref's. If we pick the right people and use cheat protection, then all people will need to do is record demos for the few times there is an issue. However, the ref / no ref situation can be determined by the admins later.

This idea is a work in progress. Let me hear some feedback.

Hmmm. Interesting idea. As an invitation only that might work. Wouldn't even need stupid mods, just tell them play by our rules. I do think right now we may have more active people in our clan that would try to play. Also 2 players will cause more moving than what one might term extreme camping but as there are only 2 you have to sneak around some. I enjoyed when we did the 2v2 before, it was much more laid back...

I know a lot of people are interested in the tournaments, and having us invite who we want can work out great.

Let's do it. As long as the other captains will help out like the extreme ladder.

I tried to get this up and running again last time and we all know how it turned out. I take the blame for that. If there is enough interest, then I would be happy to co-administrate and help get the ball rolling on this, but only if there is enough interest.

For me the mods didn't ruin it if you were really camping you barely noticed them. The invitation to some of the wrong teams and selective rule enforcement did. The mods they were using in the Extreme ladder could be tweaked till you couldn't take a step and some of those players would still have figured a way around them. I think if the right players are invited you won't have to worry about refs or mods.

I would be up for participating in the 2v2 matches. I think invites to people outside of the DOU would be a good idea as well.

The only problem I could foresee would be two really good players teaming up and running the map on everyone. It wouldnt be that fun for people, like myself, that gets hooked up with someone of equal skill level - we wont have a chance most of the time.

To counter that, I would suggest something simple as drawing names out of a hat to pair up people or ranking everyone who wants to participate say 1 through 16 or whatever # of players are in and match them up from there: 1 and 16, 2 and 15, 3 and 14, and so on. This would emphasize some degree of parity.

I think that doing one of the above would also encourage participation at ALL skill levels so that the tournament winner isnt easily predicted prior to the matches starting.

This is not a bad idea and we will discuss this before the tourny. So your in right?

That would be about impossible to do. We'll want to pick our teammates from a similar time zone that we know we can play well with. If it was random you might put someone from the east and west coasts together and they would never be able to play at the same times... The fun of it is playing with someone that you can communicate well with and play well together.

If you really camp you will have a chance even against someone you perceive as better. The people that get lots of kills are often the ones that move around more. That works in 5v5. In 2v2 there is a lot more map to cover, and only 2 people to shoot at. Camping hard works much better in the 2v2 matches. Sure some teams will move more than others but it will be better than you think.

You keep coming up with some of these averaging everything ideas.. Are you a school administrator? 😆

sounds like fun,i would like a piece of the action, but as some one posted earlier, you get to bad asses against to medium asses, the bad asses will run all over the mediums asses,is their some way it could be done where 4 enter right before the match starts ,the server ramdomly puts you with someone so that it,s make interesting.you dont know who you will be paired up with.and have it do that before every match.i doesnt matter how it turns out , i want in ......... 😈

I think that doing the random team thing will be too much work and really slow down the pace of getting the ladder started. I suggest the we stick with the old routine for now and then if it becomes a problem or is seriously wanted we can revisit the idea for season 2.

The main goal here is to have a successful season 1. If that happens we can tweak the ladder for season 2 all you guys want.

I am starting work tonight so I will have limited availability but I will start the prep for this thing and then maybe on my next days off (in a few days) we can get together in vent and start discussing this thing.

I see no reason why we can't start this ladder in early April (4 weeks out).

Job #1 will be for people to start making a list of potential maps to add to the ladder and to remove from the old ladder. I suggest removing Stargate as I think it will promote movement.
