about sniping

I have seen in this and other forums long discussions about what is to be a good sniper, a good camper or an hardcore camper..., and there are many divided opinions.

Different clans have written rules, and they usually are lists of prohibitions (like ours) although there are some exceptions...

Whereas the rules can not cover all situations that occur in games, and for the various features of the maps, I think a simple exercise is to look briefly and without going to an extreme analysis, what happens to a sniper in real life...

1. In the real life, a sniper is someone who works alone, lurking in dark and discrete spots all potential victims...

2. He will keep his position all the time that he believes has advantages over their victims, and if he have targets too...

3. If he finds that they have been discovered or received enemy fire, a sniper will leave his spot in search of a new one. Otherwise it would be suicidal.

4. He will not do the search for a new and better spot, running or jumping neither using a translocator..., but will do so discreetly, through movements that may be unnoticed by the enemy to find another hidden and advantageous position.

In the game points one and two require no further comment.

The point three deserves more attention:

In my opinion, I believe that during a game, an exposed sniper and under fire, has the right to move and change spot, otherwise there is no equivalence in the corresponding real life...

What matters is the way to do it. (point 4...)

So I think that:

a) leaving a spot moving crouched and with discretion should be allowed.

b) leaving a spot running, jumping or using the translocator should be forbidden.

On the other hand in real life a sniper does not expose his body and avoid the bullets moving fast or jumping sideways or upwards as he fires his rifle... (As JoeyakaCaTcH, TapouT, ZSZ Scay, Lovejoy and others usually did), so that kind of play should be forbidden (Area camping)...

Obviously, running and hunting must be forbidden also. (As Bostero, djhardbpm, z3opa and others usually did)

Nando is a mixture of all the above forbidden.

But often the trans is the only way to leave a lot of spots, and it's in the game so I'm damn sure going to use it. I try to sneak as much as possible but often the trans is the best way to move unless you always stay on ground level.

Which is another point, people that stick to the low levels and people that love the high spots have a different idea of how much movement is acceptable. Often I might trans and move vertically quite a bit, but I am crouched and sneaking too, not running all over to do it.

You are right Evil, I think I forgot to say that you can use the trans when it is the only way of leaving a site (for example a lamp at Bistro map) but not to jump all over the map....
