I have some bad news people. I just learned today that my Mother has lung cancer and it has already spread to her liver. She is going in for a biopsy on Monday so we won't know until then what options are available to her. But needless to say, once it spreads it is not a good sign at all. I wish I could be, but I am not optimistic at all seeing how I know a good deal about this type of thing.
Funny, she quit smoking ten years ago next month. I have 2 sisters who still smoke, wanna bet they both quit this week?
Right now it is a wait and see sort of thing. But in the comming months I am going to have to travel quit a bit more. Besides putting me in the poor-house, I will not be able to be around as much as I would like. With that said I am going to pass out quite a bit more responsibility to the clan members. 4 different people are going to be in charge of watching the 4 game servers and making sure they are ok and reboot them if necessary.
I have asked Snake, a good friend of DOU and a very knowledgable computer person, to watch the boards for me if I am away. He will do all necessary upgrades and also fix anything major that might happen. He won't deal with moderator stuff however, that will be left to the forum moderators.
Shortie will have 100% control of TS in my absense. She knows what she is doing so we are fine there.
And if I go absent it won't be for a long period either, just a week or 2 here and there for now.
If anyone can think of something I have forgotten to have someone look after, please let me know. Hopefully the ladder will be over before things get busy, but if not we will deal with that too. As for the Quake 2 ladder, I am going to ask someone from the WOS clan to take it over for me. I still want to play if I can, but I won't be able to dedicate myself to it fulltime so even though it will pain me to give up control of it, I think it will be better for the ladder itself.
There are plenty of non-dou people in irc to hold the fort there, so that will be fine. And again, I doubt I will be gone long enough for a problem there.
So thats it in a nutshell. I will be calling on the people who around the most to do these things for us. So if you are around a lot, expect a PM soon, lol.
Tommy

I'm really sad to hear about that Tommy !!!... I know how hard is that disease !
Don't worry about the servers, TS and forum. This comes after real life problems.
Do what you have to do and we'll wait if some things need you.

sorry to hear of your mothers illness. My wife and I send you our best and pray for you , your mother and your family.
Blessed are those that grieve, for they will be comforted.
Thanks for the kind words everyone, I really appreciate it.
I hate to say it but it looks like the news got a bit worse.
She went in for tests today and they have confirmed 2 tumors in her right lung and 1 in her liver. Furthermore, they suspect that it has also spread to her brain. She is going in for an MRI next Tuesday to see what's up there. So I am still hoping for the best but I am not to optimstic at this point.

For those of you who are smokers - keep puffing away, cause it will never happen to you! It only happens to people that you read about on forums. Remember, cigarettes kill 1 /3 people who smoke. Know 2 other people who smoke beside yourself? Well, one of you will die from it.

I stopped smoking about 15 years ago. I can suppose I'll be ok but in France we have 63 000 000 people and 60 000 yearly deaths by smoker's cancer and they are 3 000 on 60 000 that don't smoke and never did !!!
I lost a cousin aged 44 !... Too young !
He had 8 brain tumors one year after his lung has been cleaned and lasted 8 weeks more.
This is a real ugly disease.
Some develop it YEARS after quiting.
truth is everyone has those cell markers in their bodys.
If you live long enough CA will take you out.

Tommy, I am sorry to hear about your mother. I do ask that you do not give up hope. This is 2006, not 1976. It can be treated and even defeated. The most important thing for you to do right now is be there for your mother. Forget this clan stuff, as it is not important. We will be just fine.
If you need ANYTHING, please do not hesitate to let me know.
