Hello everyone,
I finally got to see an oncologist today. So here's what I know....
There may be some evidence of the cancer spreading. I will be having a more detailed scan Thursady morning to determin if or how far it has gone. If it has spread and it has gone too far then I am beyond surgery and by the averages I'll have about a year. That includes some chemo to shrink the cancer and give me that time.
If the cancer shows it is localized then I'll have about 5 or 6 week treatment of radiation and chemotherapy followed 4 to 6 weeks later by surgery to remove the cancerous area. The good doc says the chances of cure are about 60 to 70% if it gets to surgery.
I'm trying to remain optimistic but alot is going to depend on what the next scan turns up.

Had the new and more detailed pet-scan done this morning. It involved injecting me with a radioactive sugar solution that is attracted to fast growing cells such as cancer. It took alot longer than the cat scan did but it didn't get too uncomfortable.
Surprisingly, I got a call from my doc at about 5:30 this evening. This guy is on the ball. It seems like everything has been in slow-motion up to now.
He told me the cancer has not spread beyond the mass in my esophogas. Even the lymph nodes that appeared enlarged in the cat scan looked normal in the new one. At this point that is the best news I could get. So in a week or two I start the chemo and radiation. If everything goes good with that they'll cut out the cancerous area sometime in November.
Thanks for all the good wishes and prayers. Every one of them is important to me. Keep 'em coming and this thing will be beat.
