Changing the recruit procedure

This has come up so I am creating a new focused thread for it. Please limit posts to this topic.

I seriously think that changing to an invite only recruitment process would be a big mistake. Probably more than half of the people in DOU asked to join. We have a lot of quality people here, it would be a shame if a lot of them weren't here.

Some people are just a bit more quiet and less noticed. These people don't get asked. But many of them have become great members.

Some of our senior-most members who have been around for almost 5 years have asked to join, and we are better for it.

I do agree that the recruitment procedure needs to be revamped, but dropping membership requests would be a huge mistake.

BTW, I am pretty sure someone asked lovely to join and not the other way around. She did make it clear that she was available, but I think she was asked.

Until a new process is ironed out, I suggest that we stop recruiting. Actually, do we really need any more people?

Otis, you are pretty new here still. What if Jarg had suggested that right before you joined, and as a result you didn't join. Yes, you would not know what you missed out on, but you do have the luxury of hindsight right now. I am pretty sure that you enjoy being a part of this clan. Why deny other potiental good members the same opportunity. This is the point I am driving at.

Jarg, you quit for awhile, and then decided to come back. You must as well like it here.

I am happy with both of you being here. Same may go for the next person who joins.

TBH, we haven't had that many bad recruits. We are all just a little bit shell-shocked by Lovely. A lot of good people have joined after her as well.

Eh - it's my contention that we have enough dead weight. I'm glad I'm here and that obviously shows in my participation level, however it also seems that we are some kind of Orphanage that takes in any stray UT player that comes along. It is also my contention that we should focus on quality and not quantity.

Yes, I am here right now as a full member and this thread has been generated in MY TIME as a member. I stand by my original post.

Keep in mind that I also played here for close to 18 months before I applied.

That's exactly the point I was trying to make. We are a great clan, the reason I asked to join is because I saw something in you guys other clans didn't have, I didn't need to be invited. Lets not make the mistake of "inviting" people because that shit will come back down on you for making a bad judgment call. I say self Initiative speaks the loudest, hey the clan wouldn't be here if someone didn't think on there own. Plus it puts a person on the spot if they're invited, they might decide "hey why not" but end up fucking off after 3 months. A truly interested person will just ask.

Should we have a set amount of time a person has been coming around before accepting an application?

I think so, even if it's not that long because the recruit period is three months and that is a decent amount of time to know if they will be around.

And if they can't or choose not to come on vent then they should be fairly active on the forums.

Guess you're right T, we haven't had that many but 1 bad member can ruin a lot of good times. Maybe we should leave it open but use a tougher yard stick to measure them by. Not make it impossible, but not vote in anyone that shows any signs of becomming a headache like the four mentioned above.

A perfectionist strives for perfection. A realist uses the system in place and accepts the outcome.

When perfection can't be obtained use the system that works.

DECIDE.

A perfectionist strives for perfection.

A defeatist uses the system in place and accepts the outcome believing no better end is possible

An optimist, realizing perfection an impossible goal, embraces excellence as an acceptable end.

Yes - I say at least three months on the server or 50 hours, whichever comes first.

I think we talked about a 20 hr min b4. I think it needs to be more myself. They may have been on for 20 hrs but were they on when anyone could interact w/them? It's not that hard to play when no one is on and leave when someone shows up.

In the past I suggested two other things to consider about the recruits:

1) A minimum of post in the forum. So we can know about their interest in our forum and topics...

2) A minimum of hours playing in our server. So we can observe their behaviour playing or in ventrilo, etc...

I think both points are very necessary apart other considerations....

Actually we have members who never post in our forum. We do not know nothing about them...

of the same way there are recruits (and members) who rarely or never plays in our server...
