I am not in favor for censorship in any way, but I am getting more and more convinced that, seen the last developments on the forum, we need to have somekind of protocol on how we as DOU members should interact with eachother.
So lets start a discussion on this topic. On content and not on individuals !
As one of my fellow members pointed out to me:
“Freedom of speech is one thing - but when it becomes harassing it takes on a whole new thing which breeds negativity into the clan. We should not be treating each other in this manner.
People can disagree without becoming insulting".

I just don't think anything needs to be censored on the forum. Whats next certain opinions aren't allowed? That is what brought this thread up was two differing opinions whether anyone likes it or not.
As my first post says: I'm not in favor for censorship in any way. I do suggest that maybe somekind of protocol would be nice so we can discuss with each other in a more civilised manner. This topic isn't posted as an indictment to anyone in particular. I know you have been offended in the past. As are others.
Actually - I think the discussion is whether or not calling another member a cunt is out line or unacceptable.
And not to stir the pot or anything but I believe that we have already set a protocol in our rules. I mean if you would kick a guest for calling a member a cunt......... ?
BUT - alas there is this fine line - I mean I have called and been called an asshole. So........ ?
Expression is one thing - abusive disrespect may be more serious?
I certainly don't have the answer - but I can understand how name calling can damage clan moral.
This forum has lasted for many years and over 50,000 posts. It has done well with the few rules we have and I think it will last a bit longer without any more.
I think we are all capable of censoring ourselves. Occasionally a word is thrown out that may be in-appropriate in the heat of the moment, opinions are voiced, we move on.
In every language we have words that are hurtful. Every Race, Religion, Sex, and Ethnicity has one or more that are meant to be mean and hurtful. We all know them and I think we are quite able to not use them on our own.
The same goes for TS. There are things said there that are defiantly over the top. The banter between Tommy and I is a good example, but we have been friends a long time and it is part our friendship. If on the rare occasion someone gets insulted we apologize and move on.
At one point in the past Bison and I had some heated words, well many to be honest. Everyone knew we had great disliked each other. Over the years as we got to know each better and we got over it. I now consider Bison to be a friend. When a couple of weeks ago there was an opportunity for us to meet we were happy to do so. As we sat down to lunch I said "Who'd have thunk years ago we would be having lunch together".
There are all ways going to be disagreements, arguments, and maybe some name calling. It is after human nature. If something hurtful is said I will all ways step in and try to calm them. Sometimes it takes someone else to step in and say something just so the parties can stop and think. We don't need to sensor them, but we can step in and say hey that's wrong. Everyone just needs to know when to end it and move on.
Being married to a Spanish speaking women I feel some, not all of the current situation is due to "being lost in translation".

There are different types of people, thick-skinned and more delicate.
About thick-skinned we say: Spit a pig in the eye, it will tell you that it rains. Foul language is for them nothing special.
More delicate persons choose words carefully, because they have been educated in a such way. But they can insult someone in a more sophisticated way.
The mutual respect lets these opposing types of people communicate without insulting each other.
The mutual respect, the tolerance and understanding will replace the censorship.

I agree with Charger here in that we are all adults and capable of censoring ourselves. I don't think policy is the answer.
I think we would all benefit from being more conscious of the fact that we are all on the same team here, clan DOU, and should show our fellow members a little more respect than we'd give a total stranger otherwise what's the point of it all?
