I've been a accused of a lot of things but being proper has never been one of them ๐
Back on topic,
I think the best way to keep from ejecting DOU members is to be a lot more particular about who we allow to join in the first place.
I think we should stop accepting applications completely and have people join by invite only. This way we invite people who have demonstrated they can be a good member before they are even asked to be a recruit.
Look at the problems one member can cause. We've 3 examples in the last couple of years or so that have not only driven guests from Vent and the server but members as well. One person can change it to where it's no longer fun to be here and I think we need to take a hard look at this.

I can see where your coming from mama. But, I myself pretty much just randomly showed up one day without out a invite and been around for almost 2 years now. I wouldn't want someone to miss out on the experience that I have had here because they don't know anyone. We're always going to have problem players and some may sneak into the clan. People seem good at the start and want to make an impression, but after a while there old habits come back. I say the process we have now is the best it can be, without being too excessive or too lenient. It just has to be constantly kept up with and moderated. ๐ก
I want to start a new policy where there will be an interview of all new applicants either on vent or via some method of IM so as to get an impression of the person and to ask some questions that we, as a clan have a right to know. Such as if they've ever been busted for running a cheat or if they've ever been banned from a clan or server and if so, why? I'll summarize a vent meeting or post the IM transcript for a short review by the membership. The application can then proceed to recruit unless sufficient cause is given to either delay accepting or outright refusing it. If an application is refused, the person may re-apply in the usual 3 months but IMO a second refusal should result in no more applications being accepted.
Questions, comments, concerns, Good to go?

I think you are wrong about this. I think you will find that the majority or members (some of the most involved) were indeed invited to join. The person who invited you became your sponsor. If you came to our server and played with us, chatted with us , and acted like a stand up person. Someone would take notice and ask you if you wanted to join. This would be much easier now with being able to talk to each person on Vent. It would also go much better as we now have enough members that there is almost always a member playing.
This worked very well, I know that I was Invited by Moon as was Shortie. I invited Nightwalker and I believe Razor. Who else here was invited? Post please.
I think this was the best way we ever had. This in addition to the current application and recruitment process would work great together. Take the stuff off the server about want to join and just make it by invite. Then a major portion on the weeding process is done before they even have a tag.

I do see a problem with this. Only that if someone has run a cheat or been kicked from a server or clan. I seriously doubt that they are or would be honest enough to admit it. By using a cheat they are dishonest in the first place. I am not saying not to do it. Just not to depend on it as being a true insight into the person, just another tool to weed out the bad. Also I would suggest that while a transcript is good it may be better to record it so as all members can listen to it If they wish.

Oh, forgot to put it up there that if they're found out to be lying, it could result in being kicked out of the clan.
I wont record my voice. Never cared for the sound of it played back so it'll have to entirely IM interviews.

I think the only thing the application should do is show that a person is interested in joining. Other than that, it is kinda useless. People can lie on their applications.
After a person fills out the application, it is posted (as it is now) for all to see in the M.O. section. We then watch for this person on the server. Watch the play styles, how they interact with others, etc.
There must be a waiting period of at least three months from initial application posting where members that have interacted with the applicant can post under the application if the applicant is good, needs work, or is a pain. This will be where/when we weed out the less desirable people. For example, if the applicant is kicked from a map, it needs to be logged here. OTOH, if the applicant is a good player that follows the rules and gets along with others, it needs to be here as well.
All we are allowed to say to the applicant during this three month time is "We are watching." or something like that (sounds creepy), unless the applicant has a question or is breaking a rule.
Finally, after the three month period, we can vote on the applicant to see if they are a good fit for the group. The main thing about this is that the applicant should NOT know that it is going on. This way, the naturally good people will show their stuff and the bad people will do likewise. We make the decision. If the vote is Yes for a good fit, THEN we let the person know that we are interested in them. If not, then we say nothing. They will never know the difference.
I do not think I explained myself too well above, but I think that the key is for the recruit not to know that they are being considered. This way, they will play like they normally do. Geez, I wished I could describe this better... ๐ณ

As Charger pointed out, what if they lie ?
Everything you just mentioned is based on them actually admitting things most people would deny.
I used to play here often but hardly come here any more because of the problems a certain departed member has caused and several of those problems are still here even though she has gone. One person can ruin a lot for a lot of people. If nothing else we should have learned this by now.
Behavior demonstrated is the only way to be sure of what you are getting in someone you bring into the clan. Lot's of people B.S. on job applications, rental agreements, etc, etc. We can ask all the quetions we want, we won't know what we are getting for a couple of months after they've got their tag.

In the past I suggested two other things to consider about the recruits:
1) A minimum of post in the forum. So we can know about his/her interest in our forum and topics...
2) A minimum of hours playing in our server. So we can observe his/her behaviour playing or in ventrilo, etc...
I think both points are very necessary apart other considerations....
Actually we have members who never post in our forum. We do not know nothing about them...
I propose to do a list of them to remember their names....
of the same way there are recruits (and members) who rarely or never plays in our server...
I believe we are being a little repetitive about this topic, I suggest to the recruitment officers to write the new rules and to proceed... ๐ฎ
