Thanks MAD - then perhaps you can give me a breakdown of how/what went wrong.

Its a cool map Otis but all the textures killed my computer when I was overlooking the whole thing and really bad when I went to zoom in. But the layout was pretty cool and I liked the higher up places that took several jumps to get to.

Hmm - I wonder if that is because I didn't partition the map. I think you are the only person to experience that crashing so far.

What do you think MAD? Partition issue?

Thanks for the input - I'll see if I can fix that.

What do you mean with partition? Explain me briefly please...

In this moment I'm working trying to fix the problems, but I have some comments to do:

- When a map have excesive number of textures or when the textures are big files, the map may work with lot of lag or simply crashes. Thats is due the program need to work with the textures in a dynamic form, not static. For example if you move, the program moves the textures around you to give you the movement sensation, and accommodates it so you can see in perspective... Although not strictly exact, what happens is that the program do not move you, move your environment...

So, working dynamically many textures, many colors, curved lines and designs, it is difficult for the program. And dealing with many processor resources also.

The result will be that many players are going to have lag problems with or crashing problems...

The map has

- 4498 surfaces with textures.

- 135 different textures

I suggest you remove some textures

The other problem is how the textures are loaded into the map. This is the most difficult because it is not easy to know the way that the map files were linked to the folder "WesternExterior". This is the trouble I'm working, because I believe this is the problem affecting the server.

The expected result is to work only with the folder called "poopie".

Respect the extructure of the map, it have a nice design, I like it very much and you could add some boots, elevators or teleporters to get the upper parts.

MAD Thank You!

Do what you gotta do and send it back to me - I'll take care of reducing the number of bizzaro textures!

How did you even get it to work???

Yup

So - I'm going to start walking this map and reducing the textures. I had some of my SUF friends go through it as well and pointed out some of the issues.

Will get back later.

MAD - check this link concerning partitioning.

Hey guys... gals too - I've been working this map with the help of some friends in between working 12 day 10 hour shifts for the past two months. If anyone would be so kind as to reply to this post with their email address so I can send it out and verify that it works across the board for people - maybe, perhaps we can get it on the server - that would be pretty cool.

I reduced about 90% of the obnoxious textures, repaired missing links and added several more structures. I think it would be fun for all to have a chance to play here at DOU.
