While I would prefer the mod to stop close kills, at least the rule would make it more consistent. Trying to figure out of someone purposely assaulted someone or just accidentally came upon them and shot them is about impossible except with constant assaulters.

I have noticed that the more I let people go, the more they let me go. Maybe if we all just be kind to the guest, most of them will learn to be kind to us. The jumping trick works too, at least for me. I actually had a good time on the server tonight with a boatload of people. I even brought up the no close kill mod to get their opinions. As expected, some liked it and others did not. It was good to hear the differing opinions.

Well, that's not exactly true. I have added mods before when requested (like the redeemer mut for example). I do not however add a lot of the mut's that affect / change game play. I have always been upfront as to why - a server that is modded in this way will be an empty server. A good example is the SID mod. It is great for tournament play, but for an open server is is certain death [of the server.] I know someone out there will site an example of a server with it that is doing well, but most servers running it are in fact empty servers.
Every few months someone decides to generate a post like this in an attempt to get one of these mut's on the server. The interest wanes and then I just wait a few months for the next post.

I have talked about this time and time again, I have posted about this numerous times as well. I am not telling anybody that they cannot be an admin. If someone wants the ability they need to first talk to one of the clan admins (Me, Razor, Dylan, and Darkmatter). This is so you can be quickly trained in what you need to know to be an effective admin and to also learn the rules and responsibilities that go along with the ability.
Some of us are hard to get a hold of, this I understand. However, Darkmatter is in vent every fucking day for a good portion of the day. Let me say this again louder:

We also have this new system on the forum (where you are now) that allows you to send these cool things called "PM's. You all should check it out, we can all get them.
As for the no close kill mod, I will not say yes or no to it until someone explains in full exactly what it does. If it isn't a bitch I will install it, if it ruins the game I won't.

I vote yes..but I agree with the concern about how close is close and how far is far... If a no close kill mod was installed I think it would make all the difference and stop a lot of disputes in the future.. π

Exactly what it does is stops close kills. It kills the person trying to shoot you too close. You can set in the ini a distance, default is 512 which from my testing is about 10 feet. Close enough to still lean over and shoot someone running below your building, but should stop all the jackholes that run up and blast you in the face. In the other thread I made about it I posted it so anyone can download and try it or we can add it as a mutator in the list for the practice server so we can all see how it works. Or go play on the tkk server and try to assault a bot. I haven't asked smitty what distance theirs is set at but it seems close to the same as default.
I am still all for the rule change though, just to make it more clear.

What skills pray? Running up and shooting people in the face doesn't seem to take much skill, that's why some people like to do it so much.
noclosekill is actually on the practice server now, it's on with the stuff for the extreme ladder. So if you get on with someone else you can try it. Dunno what the distance is set at, have to check with someone else and find out.

I'm not a big fan of mods but I believe this could help. Trying it out on the practice server first would seem the thing to do to dial it in before putting it on the sniper server. I don't like most of the mods but this one I think will eliminate a lot of the R&G crowd.

I would throw my vote behind any effort that wants to put a "close kill" mod on the sniper server. It seems that the pros outweigh the cons from what I've read on this thread. Did this idea just fade away or what happened? It seems there was a vote on it a few months ago-any update on this? How can I help?

I've noticed that a few people end up being too close and I expected them to find another spot to camp but they just walk far enough to get around this Mod. π
I would hate to say this but there has been too much running around on the camping server. Try another mod to force people to camp maybe? I'm sure we could grab one that does wonders!

The no-close-kill mod has only been partially successfull. The range the mod is set at needs to be tripled at the least to be effective.
