Sup yall,

SpywareBlaster is great for keeping things off of your system in the first place. Not much of a cleanup tool. Also take a look at SpyBot ( http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html ). All of the tools operate a little differently so running them one after another is a good thing as long as they are not real time scanners.

Any firewall is better than no firewall.

Also look into OpenDNS ( http://www.opendns.com/solutions/overview/ ) Set it up on your router and help safe guard your entire network. Saves you from a lot of drive by type of shit.

I would also suggest getting Ubuntu to do any secure web surfing. Linux is much more secure with FAAAAAAAAAR fewer bugs out there. The OS is really fast and easy to pick up.

Dual boot your system and keep anything that you want secure in Ubuntu. Oh... it's free.

Thanks for the ideas. Can't do most of the stuff you recomend yet pebcak because it won't boot at all, except to the dos recovery console. Try for windows and it just hangs. We actually ran several of the things you mentioned trying to get it fixed before. I'll try downloading that norton boot thing but it said you need a key or pin, not sure if it means you have to buy the norton product or need your windows key.

Concrete could you send me a copy of that? I was gonna download it when he linked it but on our connection it wanted to take a month. Maybe I'll search the posts here and see if I can find that link again and see if it's better now.

Also, you can try this. Remember that you can use a CD or flash drive to load Linux. You do not have to install it to your hard drive. Some Linux OSes run entirely from CD, flash drive or DVD.

http://maketecheasier.com/remove-windows-viruses-with-linux/2010/02/02

The reason that I bring it up again is because Linux is virtually virus free. Since your Windows is screwed up, you can't boot up to run the scans. Using this method, you can boot to a FULL OS and fix Windows without the re-install. You can use the Internet (Firefox or Chrome), send emails, receive emails without worry... whatever.

However you do it, I wish you luck.

The final option...

Buy a Mac 😀 (whose OS is Unix based just like Linux)

if you can get into windows...you can use the command msconfig and disable all non microsoft programs..then start deleting all unwanted/not needed files.

Made a boot disk from avg and let it run for hours, it removed a few things but computer still won't go into windows. Got the XP sp3 cd dled that jarg used, the small one not what draco posted, that link was dead anyway. Installing it now. Usually it will ask if you want to repair current install but this one seems to just be installing over without asking. So hopefully it works. All it asked was format or not and I said not so hopefully most of his stuff is left and he just has to reinstall things. I would rather have been able to delete the entire windows and start fresh, or format it even, but it's a single partition so he'd lose all his other crud by formatting. If this doesn't work then I may try the unbuntu boot cd I made and run virus stuff from that or delete windows with it.

Well not exactly success. It installed everything with .0 on the end, so we have windows.0 and such, so we retain the old folders there too. But it says that windows key is no good. May have to figure out how to put the one in from the old one, but it doesn't even ask that, just wants you to buy windows 7. Not sure you can put the old key in now.

Yeah, that was years ago that I posted the XP Black. If you have a bittorrent client, try downloading the torrent attachment to this post. See below for details.

I can't tell you how long it will last, but it seems to be a legit copy. Use the instructions below and you can have yourself a copy of Win7.

If the attachment does not work, PM me and I will email you the torrent.

Good luck.

Applications : Windows : English

I was gonna say something myself but my virus protection thing came up with a warning and then had to scan my drive completely. It found like 3 viruses and 4 trojans and the only way to fix it was to reformat my entire machine and start from scratch.

Oh wait, no, that didn't happen. I have a Mac so I don't even have virus protection software installed, muhahahahahahahaha.....

Yeah, Mac's suck, right, O.K.

Have a nice day. 🙂

Nah, no brainwashing here. I use both Windows and Linux. I must admit that Linux is personally my favorite of the two for everyday use. It is faster, secure, and....FREE!

If I had the money, I would get a Mac and triple boot it.

I thought about that, but I think I might just take the PC I have and install Linux on it and use it to play with. I actually thought about putting VCent OS on it because that is what we have on our game server. That way I could learn it and then not have to bother _J so much.

Do what I did and get an Apple Refurb. It came from Apple so it is as good as new and I got a 3 year bumper to bumper warranty with it. Buying it as a refurb though, the discount was substantial. It was the difference between being able to afford it and not being able to afford it. TBH, if I hadn't screwed up when I got the PC, I would have just bought a card for the PC and kept that. But since I would have to buy a new PC and a graphics card just to be able to play anything, It didn't make sense not getting a Mac.

It's been literally 2+ years since I have had a Mac. I don't get stressed out anymore just turning my computer on. 🙂

So my computer is up and running again with Windows 7. It works great with two exceptions. Utorrent says access denied on every file I try to download and UT99 freezes at the intro screen. Then once I do a ctrl alt delete my whole screen is tinted white until I restart the computer 😥

Hmmm... Good for AMD CPU's

Tried it and it is kinda cool... Windows XP with the look of Vista!

AND the EASIEST way to get rid of Viruses on a infected Hard Drive... delete the partition and reformat...

I personally have come across this shit and I'm not too happy with it.

Even though I had AVG < another AV software I still got the fake pop-up virus scanner... Guess what it is actually doing??? Everyfuckingthiing possible to screw up your computer and ask for your credit card # to fix it!!!

System Restore to the Rescue??? You are SOFL!

This thing eats your computer's Hard Drive alive!

I go with a proggy from Linux called Parted Magic to clean what was left of my HD and reinstall my Windows and stuff.

Future reference: Keep a backup of your stuff!

Some Motherboard utilities like Gigabyte's CD will allow you to copy the Main partition of the HD and be able to restore it after any occasional crash. Except HD failures but who trusts Maxtor anyways???

I am currently running Norton and not having any trouble other than eating cookies!

Linux??? hard to figure out at first but can be a pain to use.

Are you still having any trouble with your PC? Did you find the WinXP SP3 serials???
