So last night, playing JB, the red team (my team) was being slaughtered. Each round lasted probably less than a minute (sometimes only a few seconds), and we were losing every time. At the point I left, it was 9-0 for blue with no hope of improving. The individual scores were racking up like in the 40s for the blue team, in the single digits for the red team, and the game had not yet finished. Call me a whiner if you want, but that isn't any fun.
Several times I asked for someone to go red, but got no takers. Back in the days BD (before DOU) I played a lot of team games. On many servers it was considered good etiquette to switch teams to provide a little balance to the game when it was clearly one-sided.
Am I asking too much, or should I just sit down and shut up? 🙂
well if i'm on i will try to get even teams and will change sides...

Did you leave because you were pissed? I figured you just dropped out.
One of the problems was with tith the non-clan guys that were in there. They too saw Blue winning so they switched teams during the map you dropped out on.
If you have a decent solution to the problem please voice it. Anybody else too. As for me I always go blue and stay there. I don't mind losing so much as being old and not being able to remember if I switch colors. So I just stay blue, lol.
Teams will become unbalanced from time to time, such is life. But I do agree that it can get really out of whack sometimes. But at the same time, better teams win. If we were in a ladder match and getting our asses handed to us, we can't exactly tell the ref that it is unfair and that we need to switch some of our players with the other team.
I guess we could set an informal rule that when we play certain people will always be a certain color. that's if people are cool with that. But if people just join a game then what do we do? It wouldn't be 100% fair to day to someone "the other team is a bit weak, so go over there and lose with them." Of course if the person is not a clan member (or a clan member who is a dick), they may just refuse to switch teams.
One thing that would be nice would be a mutator like phoenix that would not let someone switch teams during a map. I think I will ask WB if the mutator can be modified for that purpose, but no guarantees there.
Another issue is skins. it is very hard to tell what team someone is on with some of them. I had though of just dropping Vahalla Avatar and playing just with stock skins where this would not be a problem. But what about the regular DM games? Since Vahalla avatar is an actor and not a mutator, you casn load or unload it for certain game types. I think that forcing stock skins for the server would thus not be a great idea. People have done a lot of hard work making the custom skins, so it would be a shame not to have them. One solution would be a mutator that forced the war machine skin, but I doubt such a thing currently exists so it would have to be made. I will ask WB about that too. Since it would be a mut, if we went to another game type, we could once again use custom skins. Hell, I "think" as a server admin I could force a skin change on people, but it might be a hassle even if possible. I'll look into it.
Getting back to the topic at hand - I agree with the frustration and would like to see a solution to it. So lets hear some solutions from everybody and then we can try a few things and try to get it to where everybody will be happy. I just get to stay Blue, lol.
Tommy
But I am open to suggestions.
i asked b4 i came in and was told that blue was short, so i stayed that way.. and when i came in, it was a balanced setup( as in 3xDOU and 1 non-member ).. but, i agree that things were not going well at all.. but for anyone to switch to the red would have completely set off things, as in a 5 on 1 situation.. and as he stated, on the next map i think it was cricket that switched to the red to help balance things out.. just like tommy said, if there isnt a preference in any respect i always just stay as blue in JB( 04 included ).. so i would of had np's with switching to teams to lighten the load, but then you would have tried to convince one of the red team to switch to the blue side to balance out the numbers..
so anyway, i love to play JB and am more than willing to help on either side aslong as i get to play..
ps.. on the next map i am pretty sure draco went red also...
One server (I don't remember which one) actually had a control key that anyone could use that would force the last player to join to switch teams. A bit brutal, in that the player might not notice for a moment, but it was effective. I also have played on servers that would assign a new player to the team with the fewer players.
In our case, I would think that letting the server assign teams as people join would be far better than merely using whatever color of skin the player has when joining. While it doesn't directly address the issue of imbalanced skills, such a situation is less likely to occur because it randomizes assignment to teams.
Such a feature would have to be disabled for competitive events, of course.
