We've had a couple recruits recently who didn't get a a clear-cut "Yes" or "No" vote.
Extending the recruitment period for time and then a re-vote has been brought up but we don't have a clear-cut method of going about this.
I'd like to have a set policy for DOU in dealing with it.
My idea is to add another vote option to extend the recruit period.
If the recruit has a problem such as a lack of participation or if there's a behavioral/personal issue that people feel needs to be worked out then we could just extend the recruit period. I think this would be a better solution than either voting the recruit in and hoping for the best or rejecting the recruit and making him or her wait 3 months before re-applying and then another 3 months as a recruit again on top of that.
The possible down-side to this is that by adding another vote option, there's a chance that the vote could be diluted enough to not have a clear majority.
Not counting abstainsions we could end up the "Yes", "No" and "Extend" options all be under 50% of votes cast. If we vote to add the option, keep in mind this will be a possibility. In such a case we would go with whatever percentage was highest. The "Extend" option would win out in the event of a tie.
I'll run this poll a couple weeks or longer if discussion warrants it.
And do please discuss it. I'd like to hear everyones opinions on it.
Thanks,
Cyg
I like the idea.
There have been a few that would not have made it into the clan without extending their recruitment period. I think sometimes work or other circumstances take priority and keep the recruit from not only participating, but communicating with their sponsor.
Personally I'd feel bad if I voted someone down because I thought they had lost interest and then found out later their Mother had a heart attack or something like that.

I would vote yes but the length should be on a individual basis depending on the reasons given....
Also if you don't set the time in stone you wont get the i should of been voted in last week complaint or so and so only had to wait 2 weeks...

I added an option to make the extension open until the problem is resolved.
That should cover where you're coming from. However, we should set some kind of outside limit as to how long we're going to wait or this will have the potential to drag on and on. I would like to see a month at most.
BTW, the votes cast prior to this posting were erased when I added the option so a couple of people will need to re-vote.
I voted NO.
I think that to the beginning of the recruitment it is necessary to say to the recruits that to be evaluated they must pass the normal period of 3 months and in addition show some interest in the forum and in the servers.
The obligation must be of at least registering 20 posts in the forum, including one of presentation and greetings and 20 hours playing in the server (That is less than two weekly hours)
Those recruits who at the end of three months have not reached the above mentioned numbers may be elected for an additional period (until to reach it) only if they give a suitable explanation.
I believe with this recruitment policy, we will obtain really interested recruits...
That's all folks...

Yes i guess 4 weeks should be long enough after the initial recruit time with a little give and take depending on the issues i don't see the point in dragging it on for months either....

Ditto here, if we leave it open ended it will never be resolved.
I think generaly speaking 4 weeks should be fine if they qualify for an extension. That doesn't mean we can't extend it more if we think we need to. This could be looked at as a guideline rather than a hard rule. There are always special cases.
Remember they are always able to re-apply after 90 days so if something is going on in their life they can't control they are not losing their only opportunity to join DOU. Also they are still free to visit the forum and the server as a guest in the meantime.

Yes, I'd like to regard this more as guideline so we can retain some flexibility like in the case of Astro where he was let go from his job and had to devote almost all his time developing a business on his own. He was doing just fine up to that point and there was no problem letting it go more than a month after he was due for a vote.
Sadly, things didn't improve as he'd liked and he still doesn't have the time so we eventually agreed to just start from scratch whenever he does finally have time to hang out more.
I'm sure we had a few potential recruits submit forms and don't stick around... How do we keep in touch if they don't post or jump in on the server. I'm sure that the Sponsors can E-Mail the potential recruits and ask them about their absence.
I'm sure Abstaining the Recruitment Vote will allow the Recruiting Sponsor time to contact the Potential Recruit about their status.
I hope we don't see any false DOU or DOU-R's out there because of this.

I think it is a good Idea. I voted for the open ended but after thinking about it, It would better to be fixed, my thought was that the situation would dictate the duration agreed upon by the sponsor and recruitment officer or Admin.
R_MAdd you have some very valid points about specifying participation. These could by added to the recruit responsibility page.
I believe a 4 week ext. should be plenty of time to take care of issues. If not, then that recruit needs to re-apply.
I vote a 4 week because I know how a lot of things
can come up in someone life I have had my share for
a long time now
