I've tried chatting up a couple more people. With Mangler all I get is the usual -- dead air. He's not interested in talking at all. There was another guy the other night (whose name I've forgotten but will come to me). His excuse was his connection sucks, but he really likes our server. I told him it doesn't matter, most of our connections suck, doesn't cost anything, and there's the potential of tournaments. He said he'd check in on the forum and he has yet to be seen.
Most people are such commitment-phobes that I think as long as they can still play on the server without being a member, there's no reason to sign up. Sort of like why put a ring on the finger when they can have the whore for free, right?
Got to have something to suck them in if you're going to entice people to sign up....
We have the practice server to explore maps, without other players and bots... it's members only.
And of course the member section to the forum.
Thanks, I'll add it to the list.
Well, there is the opportunity to be a part of something bigger, to meet new people and make new friends, to enjoy a gaming community instead of just -playing by yourself.

Rad, I worked on Bachus last night and he'd respond and comment, but no sure commitment about visiting the forum or saying, "sign me up". Personally, I think he's in the Timmo category. Good player, good guy, but he's just not going to wear a tag and he's too polite to :redflipoff: me about it. Time will tell. I'm not going to harass him for fear of driving him off. ()mG.cK was playing with us and he actually encouraged him to do it despite having his own clan.
I've had a more detailed chat with ()mG.cK recently. Stupid me, who knew ()mg was a clan? Of course, his answer was nobody does, so apparently he's heard that before. He gave me a big long story about the deal with the clan and it sounds like it's largely inactive and he hangs onto the tag for sentimental reasons. ()mg's "tommy" was a good friend of his and he died. After that he took over the clan, but I don't know that it really has any other members. I've certainly never seen one. He left me with the impression that keeping the tag is 100% in memory of his buddy. He hangs out with us a lot. If his situation is like I think, maybe he could be convinced to keep the "tag" as his name and sign up with our tag? Have to approach that one cautiously given the circumstances. Probably best to leave well enough alone right now.
@frag_magnet: At least you have made the effort. The seed has been sown, wait, maybe someday sprout. 😉
Don't get yourself worked up over it Frag, alot of the players still around today have been playing for a long time on many servers, and more than likely just don't want to show favouritism, and are happy being freelance players, I think we need a public tournament to invite all our guests who regularly play in our server, we could do a couple of things on this front, some team matches always go down well with the players and are often some if the most fun nights on the server 20 players playing teams, excellent fun, we could also hold a {DOU} vs the public, the public being anyone without a dou tag, all players should come to TS even if they don't have a Mic they still have speakers and can hear!.
I know Tommy is currently in the process of setting up some tourneys for the near future, I think this could be a good chance for us to get some new blood interested in what we are doing and show a good sign we are still active and moving forward, a fresh home page for the forum would give the forum a renewed feel to what's going on, I fully believe the ut99 community will slowly start to be reborn as ut4 gets closer to release, hopefully when the world knows about it they will have a nostalgic feeling and come back to 99, we need to be ready incase this happens on the 99 front but also we need to show we are not stuck on a game the best part of 20 years old, a fresh new look pointing the future and ut4 in particular could potentially open the doors to a busy and productive clan.
I'm not worked up. Rad had asked me to help out with some of the English speakers and I was following through. Like he said, seeds are planted. It's good to see people playing. I'm seeing quite a few on during weeknights now, too. That's good because it seemed like before things only ramped up on weekends.
I will say that looking at the overall server list and comparing to the populated server list, things across the board are pretty dead. I hope you're right about that UT4 angle. Add that to the list of things I don't know anything about. :trans:
Ut4 is free for everyone just download and play as simple as that, it's still in pre alpha stage just now but none the less a fantastic quality game based on ut99 and 2k4 with much improved graphics, definitely worth getting it it's free!!! And if your pc needs a tweak, upgrading isn't as expensive as you might think, many people here can help you on picking what works for you on the pc side, drop by ts on a weekend morning and have a chat with someone about that, you never know, one of the guys might have some bits laying about.
What are your pc specs frag?

Coal fired, North Korean surplus.
I am going to have a DOU Vs. DOU tournament in about 2 weeks. I'll post more about it ASAP, I'm setting it up now.
I'll leave it to you guys to invite anyone you want other than clan members, however, Team Speak usage is a must. They don't have to talk but I need to be able to communicate with people on the fly to keep the tourney going. This goes for you guys as well.
More soon.

Just a few who pop up in my head.
RAD plays on the server with them all the time. Maybe he has an opinion?
