Recruits are being held responsible for their behavior and actions on the server(s). If there are complaints or concerns regarding the recruit we inform their sponsor. Sometimes misunderstandings occur because they don't completely understand what being is expected of them. This should be addressed to the attention of the sponsor.
Here is a letter you can use to inform the recruit of what is expected from him. You don't have to copy it exactly (you can if you like) but it does have most of the things recruits need to know about joining the clan.
Every sponsor needs to send something like this to their recruit to begin with at the start of a new recruitment.
An informed recruit will make a better recruit

Hi, _______________.
Congrats you have been accepted to the DOU recruit program !
My name is _________________, I am otherwise known as ______________. I am to be your sponsor
About our clan....
We come from all walks of life, all over the United States and the world. We have members (over 30 at last count) in France, England, Chile, Poland, the Netherlands and several other countries.
We share a lot in common but one thing in particular, a love of Unreal Tournament.
We are very competitive and quite a few of us compete in clan tournaments, but above and beyond the game that brings us all together we are basically good people, and this criteria is more important to us in selecting recruits than how many kills they can score in a match.
We strive to keep the quality of our membership high.
What Am I Required To Do As A DOU Member .... ?
To be honest, not much.
There are no dues to pay. Those that can give are asked to contribute what they can to take care of server costs. those that can't give are never singled out or ridiculed. No one here receives any compensation for the time they volunteer.
You don't have to attend clan events or meetings if you can't or don't want to. We do encourage everyone to participate but it is not required.
We only ask a few things, these two in particular....
1) - That if you choose not to be involved, don't complain about things decided in your absence.
2) - If you commit to playing in a match of some sort be there, or tell us in advance you can't make it so a substitute can be found, no one likes to forfeit a match.
The main focus of being in clan DOU is having fun, that's why we are all here. Probably like yourself, this is a distraction for us that helps us unwind.
The camaraderie is a side benefit, one I hope you choose to take advantage of, there are a lot of really great people here, and I feel fortunate to be a part of it. Teamspeak3 is a great way to get to know your clan mates at DOU.
Here's what D.O.U. expects from Y.O.U.
From now on you are to wear this tag... {dou-r} _____________ ... Please copy it exactly, this identifies you as a clan DOU recruit. Since everyone here is basically βgood peopleβ, it is unlikely you will have any difficulties but....
should you find yourself in a disagreement with another member or guest, do nothing yourself. Contact me and I will get involved. As your sponsor, I am responsible for you, please keep that in mind as a courtesy to me !
Also, Do not Police the server! you don't have to let people walk all over you but do not quote the server rules and attempt to correct peoples behavior.
As a recruit you are learning about our clan and how we define our rules. As a full member you will be expected to know and understand our rules and at that time will be able to caution guests. Until that time find an admin to correct the problem or send me a pm with the name of the offender, date, time (in EST please), and a brief description of what happened.
Please recognize that if you choose to wear your recruit tag while playing on other servers (wearing your tag is manadatory while playing on any DOU server, not so elsewhere) you will be seen as part of our clan, so be courteous.
Just observe basic server etiquette, hello when entering, good bye when leaving, sorry when needed. We are a pretty well known clan and strive to maintain a good reputation in the UT community.
Also, wherever you go, make sure to follow their server rules .Sometimes they pop up, sometimes you have to go to a site to read them, most are pretty standard. Use common sense. Remember you are a prospective member of DOU and a guest!
Also .... and this is very important ! ! ! As a recruit you need to be active on BOTH the server and the forum. Create your own posts or comment on some that are already there that interest you. The reason is people need to get to know you. Thats what the recuitment period is for. The more contact you have with other members the better.
It would be good for you to download Teamspeak3 so you can speak with us in real time. There is a link on the forum if you don't already have it, you will need a mic/headphone set-up.
You will be on probation for a period of 90 days (realize you are being observed) after which the membership will be called to a vote on giving you full member status.
If you are voted in, you will be given access to the "Members" section of the forum, as well as a new tag to put in front of your name indicating your full member status.
If for some reason the vote is no, you will be told why and you may re-apply in 90 days, should you wish to.
Well.....that's it !
I hope you will pm me with any questions, comments, or concerns (use the forum). Ask and I will answer.
Check in with me periodically, keep in touch, and I'll frag you later!
