Yes, you read that right, Soul has asked to join DOU.
For those of you who don't know who I am talking about, he is a former XIS member and probably their best.
Here is the deal with this. I was weary about even thinking about this at first. But then I thought to myself that I should hear the guy out and see what he is about. The majority of what we know about his is via hear-say. We are a social clan first, and a competitive clan second. So lets be social.
Here are the known pro's and con's of this:
Pro's:
He would instantly become our best player. He could probably win in a 2 v 1 against shortie and myself.
He has lots of time and would make all matches.
He would most likely (I am sure) be willing to train all of us and make us better translocators and snipers.
He is timid because of some of the con's below so he would probably be on his best behavior (at least for a while, lol).
People in the know tell me that he does not cheat. Some in XIS did, but he didn't.
Con's
He was in XIS, and as such there is that stigma.
I did see him get overly pissed once and lose it during a ladder match.
As for the losing it thing during a match, I would have to talk to him about that. However, I do remember losing it during a match myself in season 1 (lol, remember me going off on Fluffy?, lol).
Anyway, I hate to say it, but I have always been a champion of the underdog, and that appears to be him at the moment. And he has never done anything to DOU so nothing at present is disqualifying him from joining. But at the same time I do agree with what many of you are thinking while reading this, that a degree of caution is called for.
He is going to go through the process regardless. So I say lets expect something good, and be ready for something not so good. We'll issue him a sponsor, someone who is around more, to work with him. In addition, I will work with him and let him know what is expected of him, and what is not tolerated. The guy was guilty by association but may not be a bad person, who can say at this point. I guess we are going to find out.

P.S. It looks like he is going to do this. Feel free to make comments right now either pro or con, but the way our system is set up there is nothing to prevent him from trying to prove himself. If we decide we don't want him in the clan, we just vote him out.

I've been talking to the guy in MSN tonight (obviously). Some positive things are that he has offered and acknowledged that he has at times been a dick in the past. He said not to expect that, he just wants a good home to belong to. Plus he did say he will work with anybody who wants him to, in an effort to improve their game play. Soon RaZoR and Wave will be schooling my ass!!!!
If this all goes well, I think we will be able to bring Alpha back into the fold. If he is as good with training people as I have heard he is, We may have to go from Alpha / Omega to Alpha / Beta.
Anyway, it is encouraging.

I agree we should give him a chance if he wasn't cheating and is a genuine player then DOU will benefit. For a player to be tared with the same brush as other members of your clan as a cheat when you are a genuine player is wrong. If we dont give him a chance who will and DOU is the best clan around. If it does turn ot he cheats we'll soon catch him and lose him but if he does not then what an asset he will make to the team. 😈

I agree that if he works out he will be a massive asset to the competitiveness of our clan. And hopefully there will be no social issues and he'll be a great guy to hang out with.
What I am most worried about is if he mis-behaves not just on our servers but on others while he is wearing our tag. I know how I felt about XIS and I don't want DOU to get the same taint.
But in light of what Tommy has related about what he has learned about Soul I have to agree and give him the benefit of doubt.
BTW, this is an excellent example of why I wish we would go to a longer recruit period. Some people warrant a longer look.

I hate to be the "negative" one about this, but is the above worth it? All that has been built up could possibly be destroyed in one fell swoop.
Soul is a brilliant person. Of that there is no doubt. He still had to know that his team was cheating and lied about it on many occasions. Is this what we want?

Yes, but if we work with him from the get-go, then maybe we can make something out of him. My take on the guy is that he is tired of all the drama and has realized what he brought it on himself. Now he wants to try to change all of that. It would be a long row to hoe, thats for certain. But where better to do it then in the company of us?

Well, I think we have built up enough of a reputation that we will be fine. Plus, please be aware that Soul is known as a hot-head, not a cheater. He has never been caught cheating. He doesn't have any magical ability that Oofki doesn't. So if Oofki has been caught, he would have been too. I talked to him about the hot-headed-ness and he assures me it won't be a problem. After I posted this initial message last night, I chatted with him in MSN for a good 1-2 hours and I was surprised that he was actually a nice guy and I enjoyed the conversation.
He is going to try to come to vent tonight if he can, but definitely tomorrow if not. I suggest people come in and talk to the guy. Get to know him and then judge for yourself.
Also, several other XIS members went to OMA when XIS folded. It didn't hurt OMA.

Don't forget what I said before people. I am sure it sounds like I am trying to be positive with this (because I am), but if this ends up being a mistake we can vote him out.
It's funny how it works sometimes, the people you think will be great (Maddog, Turkey, Chains), end up being the dicks, and others that we are concerned about (Guess naming names would be inappropriate) end up being good members.

I will give him the benefit of a doubt. I do think that now is a good time to up the length of recruitment period.
As with all new recruits though, he should be watched closely.

If we do go through with this guy, I think we need to stand him up against a wall and everyone gets a free headshot on him just to make some of us feel better. 😉
I was there and in the middle of all the XIS and Fluffy shit. Just having the guts to come around DOU and ask says a lot about the guy. I say give him a shot if he is a F-up he won't be around long anyway.
A for our rep being damaged I just don't see it that way, just the opposite, It shows that even someone with whom we had a disagreement with was given the same chance to become DOU as anyone else. It just shows the character we all have.
