Since I have not been playing in the ladder I have had some extra time. I have spent some of that time thinking about our current state of membership.
The problem we will all agree is in people joining and then not really participating with the clan other then an occasional map or two on a server.
We have discussed this in the past and have come up with some ideas like booting people out who are not active, etc. But this really doesn't solve the problem since they were in the clan already. However I don't really think that is the problem [completely].
We want / need more people, especially people who are interested in playing on our sniper teams. Well, booting out people who are not so active is not going to help us there. Also, having inactive members isn't hurting us either. If we want active players we are going to have to look at this in another way.
I honestly believe that people want to belong to a clan, but don't fully understand what the whole idea of a clan is. So here is what I propose. We can leave the recruitment process intact because I really don't think that it is broken. However, I think we need to add some type of pre-recruitment screening process, as well as a post-recruitment follow-up of some sort.
First, when someone wants to join the clan they will either have a sponsor or be issued one. So much the same so far. But then before their recruitment period begins their sponsor will take some time to get to know the person and see what they are all about and whether being in a clan is the best thing for them. The way I see it, if someone wants to join but does not intend to really participate, then why do they really want to join? It can't be for the social interaction if they don't. It can't be to read all the juicy threads in the members only area if they never come to the forum. Maybe it's just to wear a tag? If that is the case I have an idea I will post below.
That is something we need to discuss as well, why do people want to join but not participate?. I have no answer to this. But back to the above.
Say we assess the person and all looks good and we go through the recruitment process. We would pretty much keep it the same as now but add a few things to it. Firswt, we would let them know that participation is a must. If during the month long recruitment process we don't see this, then some type of action will be necessary. Also, here is a new idea that just may have something to it. For a period of a full 3 months after the recruitment process, we marry the sponsor to the new member. It would be the sponsors job to keep after the new member anc coax him along. I know we are all big boys and girls here, but we have to remember that not all of us are social butterflies. Remember, I have been in this clan longer then anyone else here, so I know how everybody was when they first joined. More of you then it might be thought were quite a bit on the side of nervous and jerky when you first started coming around. It is tough to just dive into it with a bunch of people you don't know. So during the 3 month period, the sponsor becomes the best friend of the new member. They get them to join one of the ladder teams. They get them to come to some dou vs dou matches. They get them to meet them in team speak on occasion. Perfect, other people will be there in TS so the person has someone familiar to meet up with while at the same time meet other members.
I really think this can improve things quite a bit. Yes, we will still have people who join and then don't participate, and nothing will do would fix it. But I also think that quite a few people slip through the cracks who just need a bit of encouragement in the beginning.
I need to hear back from the few of us who are actually participating, tell me what you think. If we decide to go ahead with this then there is some prep work we need to do. Most of that involves clearly defining clan rules for membership, and most importantly what it means to be a member.
So start tapping them out people.

About the people who for one reason or another feel the need for a tag but aren't really into participating, perhaps we should create an honary tag that people would be allowed to wear on our servers? Like FCD (Friends Of Clan DOU) or something similar.
I don't see this as a really big deal either way, but maybe it would make some people happy? Just something to mull over I guess.

For the rules, I think the following items should be defined:
01) While we have other servers, we are primarily a camping / sniper clan.
02) We expect participation above and beyond just playing on the servers from time to time. Forum use is a must and team speak highly encouraged.
03) If no participation within a set amount of time or it is looking weak, action will be taken to either correct or remove.

I do think we should put A active member with a recruit 2 help them along..
I think if we have a guest skin we can hand out to help someone feel apart of sumthing that might be a in for us to do a full recruit down the road?!
I think we just need to get to know the people we are playing with before we offer the recruit option !!!!!!!

I think our recruitment period is too short, and not long enough to really get to know the intentions and motivation driving that person to seek membership. I have checked with a couple of other clans and most are 90 days or longer.
Now, while I don't think we should do it just because another clan does, I do think ( stated first ) it gives us more time to see who they are and why they want to join.

I tend to agree with yO mAmA on this one. Make recruits wear the {dou-r} tag for at least three months. This way, we can have more of a chance playing with the recruit.
Encourage sign up and play in {DOU} Omega. To ensure fair playtime, have the captains create a play list for the maps. This ensures that everyone gets playtime and does not feel left out.
For the folks that are already in the clan, give then each a job. There are plenty of opportunities and it can only make the clan better and stronger.

Very true! I feel the same way. I never belonged to a clan before DOU. To be honest, the clans I hung out with almost seemed like they thought they were better just for being a Clan. DOU was really the first place that I didn't feel like I was being looked down upon. I actually felt like the members were honest and you could tell that you were among adults when you hung with them. Then I met Tommy.:twisted: Still haven't recovered.
I like the idea of a 90 day probationary period but I think the tag should still be awarded after the 30. New recruits should be made aware that there is a vote after the 30 days and again after 90 days, and they had better get used to their sponsor because that is their mentor for the duration. Only the 2nd vote should be done with members in TS so that the person in question is discussed thoroughly and not just a brief "yeah he's good".

Lol, you just contradicted your previous posts. If Tim "comes around every so often" then he would not be a very active member. I'm not saying he isn't a great guy, I am sure he is, but the whole purpose of this discussion is to weed out those who get a tag and then don't do much else.
What i believe is frustrating most of us active members is that we have a huge roster compared to other clans, but struggle to get enough people for matches. Some weekends we are hard-pressed for 5 people. I for one thing that this really sucks.

Tim used to come around more often, I can't say why that changed for sure. Could be all the IP changes over the last couple of years. When I ran into him on TKK, after our last change, he asked What had happened and asked for the new addy. There are others who believe he would be good for the clan, there is a post somewhere about it. Dim, Alf, and I used to play with him on FCS all the time. He has never asked to join us and has played as a free agent for a few years now, so I don't think he's wanting a tag all that bad.
I do agree we need more ladder participants, this is something I could disscuss with him if he has an interest in joining. It dosn't mean we have to vote him in.
If you want to eliminate him from consideration let me know and I'll withdraw my offer to sponsor along with my post. I don't think my judgement has proven too bad for the clan so far. Draco and Dim were both mine if you remember. I think he is worth talking to.
Anyone else have a comment ............... ?

tim is a dick!!!!!! 😉 but he said if you all want you can join the <cAr> clan/non clan. he would be much obliged. 😉 ummmmmmmm other than that my boss is a dick!!!!! and he said that he is not interested in being {DOU} at this time but he said if we are ever in dire need for his services to let him know, and if hes not doing anything important he shall arrive. 😯 😉
Well if Tim is not interested that settles that 😆 .
