O.K., we have a rule in the clan about nobody being in the clan who is under 13 years of age. I think it is time that we revisit that rule. Here is why.
Some of Dylan's and Ace's kids have been coming around a lot lately. Some are 13 or over, some are not. I was really not to keen on the idea of them being around until I got to know them a bit. Our past experience has been with people like Sting and Tiger Eye, and these experiences have not been so great. But with this newest batch, the experience has been just the opposite. They are well mannered, friendly, and eager to learn our rules and play by them.
I thought to myself while playing that I liked the direction that this was taking us in. We have always been more of a social clan, and this has added a new dimension to that. To be honest, the clan just feels a lot more friendly. I am sure a few other clan member that have kids would like to have them come in as members too.
So, I gave it some thought and decided that I would pitch the idea. The idea IS NOT to just abandon our old rule. There were some pretty good reasons for having it, and they still apply. So here is what I propose.
We create a new section called "The {DOU} Tinies." In order to be considered for membership you must be sponsored by an existing member of {DOU}. The Tiny in question must be somehow associated with the clan member, such as a child of, brother of, etc. The person will still have to go through the recruitment process sponsored by the person they are associated with. The recruit would remain a Tiny until they reach 13 years of age. Until that time, the sponsor would remain their permanent sponsor and would be responsible for the recruit. So if the kid was 9, the sponsor would remain sponsor for 4 years. Would would ask the parents not to sponsor kids so young that they don't even know what a clan is or want to be in a clan. All of the rules of membership would be the same with regard to playing by the rules, being a decent person, not going idle, etc. We would also talk to potential sponsors and make sure that the kids will not be pains in our asses. If the kid is too hyperactive and would not play by the rules, then we would discourage sponsorship. It's not a knock on the kid, but not everybody is ready to be a clan member.
Again, I really think this would be a great idea. A few clan members in the past were very disappointed that their kids could not join. This would make them happier. With the sponsor being associated off-line with the recruit, the kids would be kept in check, and they would be happy to be allowed to become a member of our great organization.
We would have them wear a tiny tag until 13 years of age. As recruits it would be {dou-tr} for tiny recruit, and once they pass the recruitment phase it would be {DOU-T} as a full member of the Tinies.
Although I would really like to go ahead with this, I am going to run this by everybody first and see what everybody has to say on the matter. Please give us your honest opinions on the matter. If you are on the fence, tell us why that is as well.

This of course means that kids just coming in off the street that have no parent, etc. as a full DOU member will not be considered for membership into the Tinies. We would keep it in the family only. This way we can still avoid a lot of the things that we were concerned with in having younger members.
The clan will become more family friendly too, and that might attract some better players that can't get their kids into their current or last clan.

I thought it would have been a not so bad idea b4. There is probably a post around here somewhere about it. I like {DOU-jr} Junior may not be a "belittling" as tiny π
Maybe not have access to the whole members area but give them their own members area.
I like the idea. I think either tag would be fine. Maybe even open an area on Vent for tinies in case the sponsor feels the regular lobby is not fitting for the minor
Sounds like a great Ideal,I like it,and Bison's ideal of thier on section, which the parents have access to ,but I think it'd take us in a whole new direction and help us become more family friendly π
I don't think it is a bad idea. I do like Bison's jr better than the tiny.
I think the "Adult relative" should not be brother, sister, cousin, etc... It must be someone who has authority over the child in case there is a problem.
There should also be some definite steps in place to suspend, ban, kick, etc... if a situation becomes intolerable i.e. Tiger Eye.
Been thinking of mentioning this over the past week but never seen tommy enough to talk about it i thought of DOU-T first but other clans use the "T" for training so a "J" or "JR" might be better also lets less regular members know who the younger ones are...
Maybe ask them if they want the "t" for tiny tag i do like the idea of the DOU-tinies

I agree with Charger and Bison. I think the "Tiny" tag might seem cute to us but not so much to them. Jr seems a little less objectifying. I also like the idea about the parent being the sponsor, less chance of any sibling rivalry/drama and more control.

...and PLEEEEEZZZZZE no more Tiger eye's in the clan, I can still hear him singing in my head.... someone make it stop, make it stop ......
Actually, I am thinking the opposite, and here is why.
It is when they are are 13 and over that they won't like being called Tinies. If they are younger they won't mind. I really like the idea of just a -T tag instead of -Jr. With -Jr. we are giving a heads up to all the psychos out there who the young members are and who they should be paying attention to. They shouldn't be, but you know what I mean.
I would set up an area on Vent that they can go to and make it password protected. This way, if they are in vent and no other regular member of DOU is around and some creepy guy comes on, they will have a safe-haven to retreat to. Yeah, I think about this shit, lol.
It doesn't have to be Tinies, but it should definitely be something a bit less obvious than Jr.
It's like OSF Slackers daughter who is 10 years old. She goes by the name "Little Girl" and has a Jr. tag on. That is a fn tragedy waiting to happen. There are a lot of bad people in this world. Some of them have computers. A few of those play UT99.

Didn't think of that T, that's a good point.

Well, the response was a lot more positive than I thought it might be. This is good. π
I am going to start figuring everything out. If someone has a suggestion for something better than Tinies let us know. Maybe I will ask the tinies themselves and see what they come up with?

I have a son of 7 and although he plays UT99 and is proficient with the sniper rifle I will not put him forward till at least 10. This is due to the fact that at 7 even though he has been playing the game for 3 years he still has not got the necessary skills for online play especially in a sniper clan. We have enough problems with adults that can't snipe I for one would not like to hear complaints about a child not sniping or killing someone even in error every time I sign in to vent or the server. So in respect of that once I have taught him to trans and camp I will consider it but it will not be for a few years yet and he may have changed his mind about the game then.
I have spoken to him about the idea just to get a childs viewpoint and he likes it, he often watches me play matches and loves the game and is often about when we are on chatting. In my viewpoint if this was to go ahead then maybe tinies could be between 10 and 13 i dont think we really need anyone younger than this. π
Get a taste of religion...lick a witch!
i like the idea alot i have played with dylan and ace's kids and they are really trying hard and doing a great job! really need to be strict with the sponsors or "gaurdians" to make sure possible problems can be handled quickly and effeciently. makes for some great family fun. dont matter if your good or not the way i see it. im here for the fun of it and dou does just that why not let the kids enjoy too.
