Here is the idea

Go figure, I run UT99 for FN.com now and I didn't even realize this was available (I actually saw it but never really looked at it). We have the ability to have the system manage small internal tournaments for us.

A tournament differs from a ladder in that when a match concludes there is a winner and a loser. The winner goes on to the next round and the loser is done playing in the tournament.

There is no challenging going on either obviously. If 2 sets of 2 people play, then obviously 2 remain, you know who you are playing next. The system takes care of all of this.

Matches are played when both players agree on a time and they just go in and play and then report the results.

I can see tournaments concluding in just a few weeks. We congratulate the winner and then plan the next one. It can be an on-going thing. Not so often that it is crazy, but not so much time between tournaments that people forget we have them.

I think that these tournaments will be great for a lot of reasons. Clan members who are a bit timid about playing in open ladders can still come and play in the tournaments with people they know. Since there is no challenging, there will be no schedule conflicts, work it out with the person you are playing, couldn't be simpler. Tournaments last a short time, so there is no half-year commitment. Since these are 1v1 and all DOU, there will be no need for refs. I am sure there are a lot of other good reasons too.

The first tournament will be a learning experience. I am not all that knowledgeable with tournaments so we will just take it one step at a time. For example, I do not understand why some players get an automatic bye on the first round. Some will, and I think it is just determined by when you sign up (as far as fragged nation goes), but I am not certain this is the case and won't know until the tournament actually starts.

There are a few other things that will have to be ironed out but I am really excited about trying this. I think it has the potential of being a lot of fun and getting a few more clan members involved in clan activities (which will in turn get them more involved in the clan).

I am already working on the sniper tournament but it is not slated to begin until half-way into January, so we have time to discuss this and iron out what we can before-hand.

Comments are eagerly anticipated.

Also, nobody can join late. Once the tournament starts, it is set until the next tournament. Nobody can come in half-way through and gain an unfair advantage.

The system also takes care of odd or even numbers of players.

Ya I'm the most timid of all in the clan I'm bet. I never did any ladder or other matches other than the deemer rounds we had for fun back whenever it was. I don't want to be the one to let the clan or team down cause I'm on an outdated laggy system still. So to hear this tourny news is great.
