I received this from my friend.
Re: banning comp id
"Yep, instead of IP they use a GUID type value (globally unique ID, usually based on the MACID, hashed using MD5 or similar). ASC (Athos Server Controller) provides this type of feature (along with a pile of other stuff). UTR uses ASC, for example. Nexgen is a successor to ASC http://www.facebook.com/l/2cd93;www.ut-slv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1145&start=0 The only server I know of that runs Nexgen is UNR where I have some sub-level of admin similar to UTR. If you visit UNR you'll see some differences that Nexgen does that I don't like. For example it does away with the server info screen (F2) thinking that it's display is better... I think that's an unnecessary change. Anyways, visit that link above about Nexgen and you'll see screenshots highlighting it's many features... scroll down until you see "Ban Control" and notice that you can ban by IP (normal) or by Client ID... which is unique to the machine. Sadly, it's all or nothing with these... you get the entire server control mod, not just the better ban. I'm not familiar with any mods that give you only better ban... but I'm sure something is out there. I suppose I could take Nexgen and pluck out just the good stuff and create such a mod..."
I get the general idea what I'm not sure of is whether we are currently running what we need to do this.
Someone want to translate this for me ?

Well seeing as we already ban by mac id and it takes them all of 2 minutes to get around it this wont do us any good either it might even be the same stuff we already use i know asc is on there....

π I was hoping it was something we hadn't tried before.
There's got to be a way to keep the losers out.

Can't we just hang up one of these
I made this post because Tommy was banning range of IPs with no success.
I didn't know that we had already tried banning Computer ID.
I apologize for waisting anyones time

I agree...
That makes three.
You don't know if it's been thought of before unless you post.
Thanks for taking the time and effort to try and make a difference Wave π

There is a difference between banning by ASC computer ID and by banning via a computers real ID (network ID).
The first is what we can do and it take all of a few seconds for those in the know to change that ID. Doing so is now a complete waste of time.
The second wold be great. The only way a person could get around such a ban would be to get a new network card. Sure the cards are cheap, but after going through the hassle of changing it a few times I am sure a person would get sick of it and move on.
There are no known tools that I can use to accomplish this. A few years ago there were rumors that a clan had developed a tool to do this but they were keeping that tool in-house and not sharing it. This was the last I ever heard of it.
As far as Memetic and the SS guys, I did ban them (or so I thought) but it appears that I screwed something up. I need someone to make a post (here) and give me their I.P,'s again so I can fix my mistake. If I get them, I can remove those I.P. ranges from being able to connect. Then, when they find holes I can fill those holes.
