Actually the IP came up Mexico for me and he did comment in english on a map after he changed his nick and came back to play.

But even if it is a common nickname in South America it is regarded as a derogatory name most everywhere else.

It appears that Kike is a common name in Mexico (Central America) as well as South America. It is pronounced Kee kay. Interesting quandary... In Spanish, the name is totally legit and non-offensive. In American English, very offensive and vulgar.

We assumed that it was a name down there, much like there are tons of jerks running around with the name jesus. So we had left him alone. I am sure getting tired of the police state here. Everything is racist and vulgar to someone, and yet to others they don't even know what it means. SO PEOPLE THAT INSIST ON TELLING EVERYONE HOW BAD SOMETHING IS ARE ACTUALLY SPREADING IT. Grasshopper had no idea until he was told. If you didn't constantly talk about such things people would forget what they even mean or never even find out. By talking about it you perpetuate it.

How about names like redneckscumbag, herpies, or stiff? They are all vulgar to someone. I see tons of names come on every day I think are stupid or can offend someone but to someone else it is ok. If I kicked everyone with a stupid name we'd have 1/3 the players on.

Jesus is an accepted proper name. It does not demean an entire race of people as far as I know. It is just as bad as any other racial slur and if you think that not tolerating such things makes this a police state then you know where the door is. You can go find SS and make your own little utopia somewhere.

Clear enough for you? He didn't come on with the name jewkiller like SS did. He wasn't out to offend your precious sensibilities. He had NO idea it had a meaning to you. As such you are actually teaching him new derogatory words that he never knew existed. It is incorrect to assume he would have known that. Kike is a vulgar word, it is a slang word, and it is an English word (in the context of the previous two.)

Actually, I have always been surprised that nobody has complained about the name "RedneckScumbag." I did create that name out of anger to be honest and it is offensive.

That's a common logical fallacy. Sorry, but my Latin is a bit rusty so I will have to look up it's proper name later. Basically what you are saying is that since he doesn't agree with you he must agree with these other people and nothing he has said suggests that in any way whatsoever.

Yes, this was my thought from the beginning. However, this is in fact primarily an English speaking server. In English the word Kike is offensive. So it is a double edged sword. Getting him to change his name was the right thing to do, but assuming him to be a racist without more info was not. When I first saw the name we thought the same thing, it was some asshole. But I decided to look him up first and discovered he was Spanish and then we looked up what Kike meant in Spanish. As a result I let it go but probably should have said something to him.

I think Ciggie's heart was in the right place but he reacted too quickly. On the other hand, speaking of offensive, all of you guys need to re-read this thread because you are all guilty of it right now. And, unlike this players little misunderstanding, this was intentional.

You guys need to take a chill pill, let it take effect, and then come back when you can speak to each other in a more civil manner.
