General Warning in The Server

I came in to play for a bit and the server was chaos. Gut needs to be taken down a notch but left before I could make an example out of him as did BigBman - whom I have never seen before.

When the map ended and a new one began I gave a general warning to the group. WARNING THIS IS A CAMPING SERVER ANYONE NOT COMPING WILL BE KICKED WITHOUT WARNING

Even with that I had to let three people go whose names I don't recall - but are not exactly frequent players - at least not by the nick they were using.

Have a nice day.

I noticed the same thing before. Warning helps sometimes, but not always. We should to keep an eye on BigBman - new player for me. I think he's too much moving around the map searching targets.

I think the whole warning thing is out of date, kick and answer questions later.

My solution, which I also execute.

When its a noob I give a few warnings to let the player know there are rules to the game. If not responding, Kick.

When its a regular guest, I'll tell him what he did wrong and tell him to read the rules once again. After that, Kick.

Works pretty fine I must say.

Not really diplomatically but effectively.

Our server needs the welcome screen that some servers have. At that time everyone is forced to read the rules.

Better yet...make the ACE scan load in the background during the welcome screen verses when the player is trying to spawn.

I've noticed that a lot of times when there are several players in and no DOU members, once one of us enters and no one really notices the place is an all out party. Noobs and regulars alike. In the situation yesterday once I arrived and was there a for a bit some players tend to mellow out and some just keep on freestyling. In these events I find it very effective to be commanding and swift about enforcing the server. Once a few get tossed it is amazing how well people show that they can camp.

I also contend that since UT99 is over a decade old - there are very few noobs still around. Since UT lets you change nicks at anytime player A whom usually camps can change to player B - run a muck and claim that he/she didn't know.

I think that by taking less BS, being consistent, dropping the sensitive mother act and owning our server will eventually lend to a much better experience for those that frequent and play by our designated rules. Not to mention a better experience for our members as well.

Maybe we should drop in sometimes without the clan tag. Just using another name. Lets say with the name: 'Bogus' for example.

The noobs and regulars wont notice they're being watched and we will be able to kick them. Be on TS when you do, so the other admins will be able to verify.

If we do this frequently they will not know for sure if there is a fake among them and the regulars wont take chances. DOU is watching you...

Eventualy they might play better safe then being kicked. Threes trikes you're out !

Might be worth a try.

Never read 'em, just close them out.
