No Run Mod?

Good, I figured that would be your answer, I just wanted to put it out there. Nipping problems like that also gives us the leverage to nip those copying his style who think it's okay because they see him getting away with it. I think because of it a lot of people are under the impression that administration isn't impartial and that's a morale killer. The minor offenders will start to behave when they see the major offenders getting clipped, but it usually doesn't tend to work the other way around.

Using HiddenAdmin would be an eye opener. Too many of the mice behave only because they see the cat enter the room.

Now I come to think of it, using HiddenAdmin won't be much of a help. It's more something like 'HiddenSpectator' we would need to have if it would exist.

Changing your name into a dot (.) would maybe help when in spectate mode, in combination with TS ofcourse.

I liked this server for its true campers' style. I hear the same opinion many times from older players or returning to playing in UT99 after many years of break. If we remove "close kill mod" then we will quickly have another freestyle server, and this type of server is quite a lot. You will then have to implement a mod restricting the movement. etc. etc.

The other thing is that some players - such as Balony or Bite_Me - are sliding on the edge of the rules. Most often it is manifested in the form of moving to a new more convenient spot, fast moving around a large area of your spot, leaning out of their hiding with the awareness of this that they have an advantage because of better ping, better hardware (monitor, mouse) etc. For me, their style of play sometimes has little to do with camping, more like ordinary street shooting.

I think that our server has its own unique atmosphere, which still attracts many old and new players.

Let's not spoil what works well.

Bite_me knows exactly what he is doing and plays the admins game when they are in, just call him straight out! When he was TKK he got kicked a few times for running and gunning..if he persists just kick him, all he can do is come to ts and whine like a bitch.

In the rules...we have always allowed light hunting. Not out and out running to look for a kill, but some hunting. It hasn't come up much in recent times because the no close kill mutator put a stop to most of that.

We would split up the player base between the two servers, and people would come to one or the other and try to encourage the other players to go to the other server. This actually happened to us in the past when we had both the legacy sniper server and Draco's bolt action sniper server. People who wanted to play bolt would go into the sniper server and simply type "bolt" and then leave, taking traffic with them. The problems this caused are what lead to the break between what I call the Draco 6 and DOU. We lost 6 members on that day and some server traffic.

Even doing this for a short duration would result in a split. Any experimentation would have to be on the one server itself.

So, are there rules for him and rules for us? I know he's not the only one and I deal with them, but you know the difference here. You can tell me to call him out on it when I see it, but I can already predict the firestorm that's coming after he's been allowed to run around for years with nothing being said and then the newly minted admin steps in. So, it's not so much how would you handle it (unless you're going to handle it) -- it's how would you want someone in my position to handle it if at all?

So, next time, spectate him and make a demo of it. Then you have something for all of us admins to see and action can be taken. Simple. 🙂

I think people have forgotten about demo recording. In the past, A lot of assholes have been fucked because of them. 🙂

There are other more secretive mutators out there. But I think I talked about why we don't want them. We do not want to become some type of secret police ruling the server with an iron fist. If we can't approach our problems in an honest and open way, then we really shouldn't be doing this. Yes, the liberal in me just poured out all over the forum. 🙂 Seriously, this is something I feel strongly about. If we start doing things like that, people will drop us quick, and with good reason.

Lets find better solutions. I think demo recording is a great option. We are admins and as such it is properly assumed that we can spectate anyone we want at any time. My liberal nature aside, it should be understood that this is not a public server. It is a Clan {DOU} server that we allow the public to play on. The only law is our law. Anyway, Spectate and record demos when necessary and then the proof will be in the putting.

I get that. What I'm talking about is changing position after each kill just for the sake of looking for the next. Lather, rinse, repeat until the game is over.

I like the demorec idea, but someone is going to have to show me how to do it. When I got my crash course training a couple of weeks ago we couldn't sort it out.

The not wanting to be a secret police bit makes sense, but the other problem is this stuff about when the mouse knows he's being watched by the cat. I've seen it, the tempo of the game suddenly changes and that's no accident. I think I just got lucky on Savage that night because he either didn't see me switch to spectate because he was so busy making his next move, or he didn't make note of it because after all these years of playing against him not being able to, he doesn't know that now I can. I don't want to abuse it because that edge might be what gives me the ability to record it.

I say two ways -- if game play changes whenever an offender is being spectated, start spectating in secret. Make demorec's, discuss it here, whatever, but don't make charges against the offender and say, "I've been watching you in secret". Sort it out here, discuss it, and then decide how to take action and move forward. Don't use secret spectating exclusively. If the situation is so extreme that you can only catch them in secret, I think it's fair game to declare it after the case is made and nobody that plays by the rules is going to fault us for it.

That's why I wanted to make sure there's approval here for it because this has been allowed to go on for ages and the new guy wants to make sure if he does do something he's not going to get his ass handed to him for doing it! :smash:

Make sure you sort out your demorec when it comes t9 bite_me, he has been around a while will try all the tricks, he will even come to TS to make his point, just tell him to stop running about and camp or he'll be kicked again, he'll go to forum and you will have your demorec ready for him.
