What tools would be best for me?

I want to edit a couple of jpg's. In essence I am going to try to pull something off of one jpg and plop it onto another. The part of the jpg I want is not a square or rectangle, thus the advice needed. To get what I want from an odd shaped piece of an image (or do the reverse and crop out the rest of the image) what tools should I have at my disposal?

I am going to start learning to do some basic editing and creating, so this is where I want to start.

Advice sought. πŸ™‚

Tommy

P.S. I know jack shit about all of this.

I prsonally now use photoshop cs2 it is easy to use once you are use to the tools. And for what you want to do there is a magnetic lasso so you can go around the shape you want to cut with out having a overly steady hand. 😈

Get a taste of religion...lick a witch!

Yesh, that is something I am concerned about. I'll never be a surgeon, thats for sure. πŸ˜›

I'll grab a copy of PS CS2 first and then come back with more questions.

Thanks for the reply.

The problem with Photoshop is that there are TOO many things that you can do with it. It can be cumbersome.

Surprisingly enough, I use a freebie. The name reminds me of Razor.

It is pretty powerful and you can download a bunch of new filters and scripts.

I would agree with Jarg. Go for the GIMP. And the price is right.

I had Gimp and Photoshop and both are big and powerful but Gimp is free with many free add ons.
