Glad to see the new forum here.
I was off the server for a while. Combination of it being dead and the last year just plain being really rough.
Honestly, I think two things hurt the server a lot. The IP change and the current server name. Activity before wasn't fantastic, but with the IP change it flatliend overnight and neve really bounced back. When the old one in people's favorites wasn't working anymore, they just assumed it was dead. They didn't know to go look for a new one.
On top of that, the name is hard to see. Call me illiterate or whatever you want. Yes, it's in my favorites list, but even now when looking for it, my eyes are looking for "DOU" right at the front and they just don't catch it with all the other characters at the beginning. It's not "new" anymore. Maybe time to put the old name back on it?
Since I've gotten back on this year, honestly, I've been playing another server just because it's fairly active. It also seems to be unmanaged and I almost never see tags of that server's people playing there, yet, people come. It's like DOU was five years ago. Seeing even one person online is enough to draw others in. I still go to DOU when I see people playing, but otherwise, I tired of playing bots all the time. For over ten years, out of loyalty, I played nothing but DOU exclusively. Maybe my playing elsewhere and people seeing the tag will let them know we're still alive, at least.
First, as for the name, that was my bad. I never realized that I left it like that. It was a 2 second fix once I learned of it. In the future if you see something wrong like that just let me know.
Second, I have several times in the past brought up the possibility of doing things like having a weekly night to meet up and play or starting the DOU Vs. DOU back up again. Nobody seems to want to explore this. Is there something else we can do?
Last, Epic de-listed the game and removed it from all online stores. This means the people playing the game now are all that will ever play and those numbers will only decrease. I hate that they did this but there is nothing I / we can do about it. My hope is that the new version of UT 3 will be something that we can put our collective energy into and grow with.
If anyone has ideas, now is the time to suggest them.

I didn't know about the game being delisted. As for the weekly games, I was never really a part of that. There were just always people around before the IP / name change.
It didn't occur to me until over time and talking to people that the IP / Name change killed things and then life took me away from here for awhile. I'm only recently back on. I've been playing a lot on SFL just because it's active and our types of people play there. It also gets the DOU tag seen. Several people have said, "DOU is still alive?"
Looks like Mojo has dropped his tag. Just played O-Zone and he said he dropped his three months ago because he made some kind of inquiry here and got shit (his words, not mine). Saw Boom for the first time in probably two years and even he asked where DOU went and thought it was gone. He's a very savvy player and even he had that assumption. I haven't seen Bachus in years, but Boom said he saw him last week, so I suspect he thinks the server went offline, too.
Mangler still plays with his tag. Of course, we lost Rad, who was our best ambassador, and that hurt. I don't know how to steer traffic back to the server. A lot of the old players still exist. Some evenings I see 10+ people on SOP (but I won't go on there) and a lot are familiar names. Online marketing isn't my expertise, so I don't have any good suggestions, but I will continue to report what I find as I survey people.
The only thing I know to say is if people saw activity on DOU, they would log on, but it will take a determined effort of a lot of boring bot playing to establish a presence, which I was doing a lot of a year ago before my absence, but it had very little effect. The survey says, with the IP / Name change, people just plain thought the server was dead and didn't go looking to see if there was a replacement.
In my Favorites, there are SIX dead DOU servers listed at the bottom. When that happens on others PC's, I'm sure they don't think to go looking for new ones to replace them. Any way to get those scrubbed? It looks bad.

Lol, yes, delete your favorites. Only you see that. They are probably old I.P.'s that were changed. When the sniper server IP changed, so too did all the other servers. All the games are on the same box.
I'll reply to the rest of your post in a bit.

Well, I know how to scrub mine. The point being that if there isn't a way to remove it from others (or even if they do remove it themselves) they don't know there is a good replacement.
