OK... I was running my system on DirectX in the UT game and I thought it was great...
Till I decided to fool arround with the video settings and found OpenGL and ran it and found that my game loads 500% faster which was really funny because I'm running a 8Meg vid card...
My HD isn't caching as much as it was which lead to my computer lagging so much...
Then again the visuals were alot better with shading and stuff...
I wonder how well it would run if I ran the vid on software mode... Shall I dare try it???

Runnig the game in software mode...as far as I recall is always safe....What performance you'll get?...Well Software render is for those of us w/no vid card...so I can't see ya gettin better fps and performance out of the game...However the only way to find out is to try...and when you do you'll still have tweakin room to see if what ever render woll still do better for ya. Just make sure you know how to get into Advanced Opitons config menu. When UT is running open the console abd type: preferences This way if u mess up the settings you can always change em back. I know cause I tried it all...and when I got nothin but a black, or blue screen, or even the funky trippy acid colors goin. I still could change it back. However if you do get the all black or blue screens you can't open the console from the game...thats when I'd use Unreal Services Servers Broweser or UnrealEd 2.0 to get to the Advanced Options. So play around all ya want...just remember if you go so far as to download a new DLL file for the diferent settings...you then might get some serious probs so take care when you go that far into tweakin 🙂
Forgot to mention....Copy your unrealtournament.ini and put the copy in a safe spot outside of UT...that way you can bypass advanced options if a setting you test is a real FuBar. you can replace the new setting ini with the okd working one 🙂
