I Got An Idea

How about this...we run the sniper server but change to Last Man Standing mode...just for a few hours. We invite everybody including non- clan members to participate...a one day last man standing tournament.

For those of you who don't know...last man standing works like this...you play normal, but after a certain # of times you get killed, you are eliminated from the match, and must then just watch the rest of the people play until...yes, you guessed it, there is one last man standing.

I think this could really help to promote the clan and the server, and we'd have some fun times in the process.

If it pans out, we could do a weekly event.

Now if more than a certain # of people sign up for the event, we may have to have sub-tournaments, etc...all to be worked out later.

What do you guys think? This could be a lot of fun. Or it could be lame. But it is an idea 😉

I see one snag...it's a sniper map, there are 2 players left...both well dug in...they sit there for 3 hours not finding each other...2 men standing...

All I can think of now is that if that happens after a reasonable amount of time we can call it a draw and stick the 2 guys in a map like massive bedrrom and let them fight it out again.

Any better ideas?

Or maybe have like a 40 minute time limit and once that hits, whoever died the least amount of times is the winner? This might be better.

I think this can all be worked out...I am psyched to do this.

I will draw up the settings and rules tonight and post them here...

I'll spam the tournament info to every UT99 website out there and I bet we get a good turn-out.

The last tournament of any kind I saw was the one tuc did awhile ago and they required money to play (lame)...they had cash prizes, but it was obvious that they were in it to make cash (lame).

P.S. I bet we get a lot of new recruits due to this 🙂

O.K., this is what we can try:

01) We will use the sniper rifle only for the tournament

02) If we have 16 or fewer players in the tournament everybody will enter the arena at the same time. If we have 17 or more people will will split them up into different tournaments, first match, then second match 1/2 an hour later. Depending on how many people sign up we will split it up as many times as necessary.

03) If it is a split tournament, the top fraggers (those eliminated last) from each round will then play in a final round for the tournament championship.

04) We will have utdc enabled of course.

05) This is a free-for-all match, no teaming up will be allowed. It will tough to enforce but we will make it a rule and watch for obvious signs.

06) We will just pick the map ourselves and let everyone know well ahead of time. It will be a good sniper style map and something well known.

07) If this goes well, maybe the first Sunday afternoon of every month?

08) I will set the default vahalla avator skin to something like the boss skin. Equally it is unfair for us to have a dark skin and other players showing up as a generic soldier, and having people not download our skin and seeing us that way. (I guess you can choose not to download skins, didn't know this was possible).

Anything else anyone wants to add to this?

I will need someone to help me with keeping track of who is eliminated in what order, by being in the matches as a spectaor when not playing. This will involve a commitment of a few hours 1 sunday a month. I am hoping for 2 volunteers.

I am figuring 1 pm on the sunday we play...that will give our European friend the opportunity to play as well (with their bad pings, lol).

All you need to do is join the game as a spectator, and NOT watch the game so much, but rather just watch the messages that appear on the screen. When a person is eliminated from the match the game will announce it across the center of the screen, like the way a headshot is announced (except everybody sees it). You just keep track of the order in which everyone is eliminated, thats all. I'm willing to bet the logs will indicate this, but I am not sure yet...want some human involvement anyway, will make it faster to determine who is in round 2 faster (won't have to sift through the logs).

For the next 2 Sundays, don't take care about me, I'll not be home (FISH FISH FISH)

Furthermore I don't think I'll be able to connect from my friends house in Britany 😥

Enjoy and let a comment on the forum !!!

I'm thinking about doing this on the first Sunday of every month...so we have a good 3 weeks to plan this and then get the word out.

Getting the word out is key, I am hoping we will get a lot of people interested in doing this. In another day or two I will have everything ready, and then the announcements will start.

Either we will get a lot of players or it will be bust...I doubt it will be in-between.

I am thinking about creating a seperate section on the boards dedicated to this. That way when people come to the boards they will be able to find the necessary info right away. If the whole thing is bust and my hopes were too high, I can just delete the area later. I figure it could be seperate from the war room since that area is for intra-clan battles, and this is an event that anyone can join, even if they are not in a clan. Like I said, if it is bust, or doesn't seem to fit I can just cook it later...but I want to avoid 400 messages all over the place from people asking for information because they didn't take the time to really look through the boards.

I have also set up an account on the boards under the username "lms" that people will use to contact us for the tournament. I will need the email address of everyone signed up and figured not evenyone would want to put their address in a public post.

If we get a decent sized amount of people who sign up for this event we can use the redeemer server as well to help this move a bit faster. It would be down just for the event, and then rebooted right back to the redeemer server afterwards.

Also, I am thinking of a 3 pm start time Eastern standard time...noon pacific time, 9 pm Moon time...any later and it's too early for west coast USA, and too late for Europe.
