I've moderated in other places and usually the policy is "English only". If you go back far enough you usually find out the policy was originally implemented because there were too many incidents (arguments) over the exact meaning of comments in other languages and people took offence - OR - non-English speaking players were not able to understand rules, prompts or directions. Makes it hard for admins to do their job.

I'm not one for implementing more rules than absolutely required... but it stands to reason that if you have no English language abilities (1) you can't read the DOU rules. (2) you don't understand the automated reminders that pop up on the server (3) you don't understand anything the moderators type at you (4) you don't understand anything other players might type at you.

Is it worth making foreign language use a 'kick' offence or is that too discriminatory?

You are not getting the full story here. Let me summarize the whole situation for you.

About two months ago, we posted our rules for playing on our server respectfully on the GEOF forums kindly translated by R-Mad. We were assured by the leadership of GEOF that they would abide by our rules while on our server. They did not.

We have tolerated the bad behavior of this clan for more than 3 months. We have tried to solve the issues in a friendly, sportsmanlike manner. GEOF continued to blatently, and willfully break our rules in spite of this.

Members of GEOF have been kicked for bad behavior on numerous occasions.

Enough is enough. This is not an issue of different languages, it is an issue of total lack of respect for our clan and the rules for playing on our servers.

Trust me Astro. This is well deserved. Our servers will be MUCH better off without the GEOF clan. We have visitors from many other clans that show total respect to our rules and our members. Those visitors are welcome. GEOF's welcome has been worn out.

Jarg is quite correct. R_Mad took the time to put up a post on their forum in their language that explained what the problems were. We were assured by Lamu89 that it would be handled and it was not. This problem ceased being a language issue a long time ago.

It would be a solution to ban non-english speaking people but if you look at problems in this area aside from what happened with GEOF there really hasn't been all that much. We also have better admin coverage than we have ever had so this type of problem should decrease as long as we keep the server policed.

I hear you all. It was just a suggestion. I have read through the threads regarding GEOF before I wrote that post so I was already aware the ban was just and fair. I also like the fact that the ban came after Clan DOU had gone out of it's way to try to resolve the issues.

I'm not arguing for Clan GEOF's return... just adding what I thought might be a useful suggestion - but I now understand that the language issue is quite rare, so accept that my suggestion is a little gung-ho.

Hmmmmm , Well it seems [GEOF] Has move on to bother other clans . Namely BwA . Oh well, our Motto is FUCK'EM !!!! We tolerate a bit til you just get on our nerves then its Adios . Geof, Mystle Xis etc.... have always been problems and they will never change. Language is not the problem, its more of a they just like being assholes . Cheating , r&g spawn killing etc.... Hell we had 2 guys on last night we know were cheating but our UTDC crashed our server while trying to take screen shots. Good on ya DOU. Stick to your guns and run your server as you see fit. I see you gave these guys every opportunity to rectify there situation and they chose to try and take advantage of the good jesture on your part. Like I said FUCK'EM ...... :birdie:

Geof has been showing up over at my place since DOU banned them as well. It's not so bad for us because they prefer the No Rules server and usually stay away from the camping server. After reading what has gone down here, I'm just waiting for any single one of them to disrespect an admin or any of the other guests so I can issue a nice big ban on the whole

of GEOF, too.

Why I haven't heard anything about clan XIS for about 3-4 years. The leader of XIS who went by the name of Soul, and also SoulRain was a huge cheater going back 4- 5 years ago. I believe he even made a video of a cheat he was running and posted it on a forum. That clan was always packed full of drama. I think some of them people they just like to stir up trouble. It's fun for them.

Soul is still very much around. The rest of the clan went off to play Counter-Strike: Source, but (because of his ego) he is asking all the members to come back so they can challenge some of the other clans that he has developed a little problem with. For the most part, the majority of XIS have that hacker mentality of 'rage this', 'pwned you', and 'I am GOD'. Just obnoxious kids, I guess. My 15 year old daughter acts the same way at times.
