Hi,
I had an issue this evening with an admin accusing me of assult and kicking me. I'd like to get some feedback here in the public forum. Here is the history.
The map was smart sniper. I spawned in the parking garage and started ascending the ramps to get to ground level. I run in to BGH. He doesn't see me so I start backing away. He turns and fires and kills me. OK, no big deal. People have hair triggers and what not. I don't say anything.
Some time later, I spawn in the same spot. Since its quite a while later, I figure BGH is probably gone so I start ascending again. Well, I'm wrong and I run right in to him on one of the levels. He starts shooting immediately and wounds me. I shoot back and kill him.
At this point Underhill accuses me of assult and threatens to kick me. I respond "He shot first, genius" and I am immediately kicked. OK, fine. Underhill has thin skin and he didn't like my flippant response. I get it. But later I ask him how what I did was assult. His only answer is tell me to keep my mouth shut. When I press him, he tells me I should have just turned my back and left while under fire at close range. In that case he would then take BGH to task for firing on me at close range.
Really? Is that what I am expected to do?
First, that had already happened and he killed me while I was backing away. Second, no reasonable person should expect that once a close range firefight begins that you shouldn't be able to defend yourself.
Admins should be prepared to give a coherent explanation for rule enforcement when challenged. If you can't then you just look petty.
I know some of you don't like me (*cough* Abberation), but you ought to try to enforce rules consistently regardless of the player.

P.S. I got no problem with BGH. This game is about killing and he did what I would have done.

You need to be more patient, at the beginning I had a problem with that too. Admin is not able to see everything remember that. This is a game we play it for fun.

Generally, if you get accused of doing something in-game, the correct response is to just say your sorry and move on. there is no point in arguing it, if you just leave it be and go on following the rules, you and everyone else will have much more fun and eventually everyone will forget the ordeal.
Not my style to let it go if it's wrong. I think admins should be able to justify their actions if they're right in what they're doing. It makes the rules clearer and a better experience for the guests.
I got no justification for what happened.

This is a public server but it is privately owned and operated by volunteers who have jobs, and families.
It's not a perfect world, it's not a perfect server. Admins are like sports refs they make the best call they can based on what they see and with the facts available.
I suppose we could improve the server and better serve our guests by staffing it 24/7 with highly trained admins that do nothing but watch the server and mediate player squabbles.
The only problem with that is we'd have to pay them and since we don't charge for people to play here, and no one is paying to advertise here, and since we get very little in donations from all the people that already play here, we have what we have. A public server that is privately owned and operated by volunteers who have jobs, and families.

Ive called you for many things you have done wrong on more than one occasion and not once have you thought you were in the wrong. It seems like you think you can do no wrong and know better than everyone else.
I take pride in my job here as an admin and I believe every other DOU admin. If we think you are doing something wrong we will let you know. I was watching on the RSA the night in question and it seemed to me you were being pretty rude to DOU members as well as our guests.
No problem. Just post the chat logs publicly.

First, let me just say that being an admin is not a fun job. It sucks the fun out of playing completely. We can not see everything that is happening all of the time.
Second, Mr. Underhill is a very fair and trustworthy admin. If he kicked you, then I have no doubt that it was deserved.
Third, if you do not agree with the call, then posting it here is the correct thing to do. Asking why you were kicked in a cordial manner will win you much more respect than A "flippant" response on the server. Your sarcastic use of the word "genius" would get you kicked by me immediately as well.

6) ALWAYS listen to ALL server Admins and speak to them respectfully. Failure to do so will result in being kicked, or even permanently banned from the server.
Mr. U saw an infraction, and issued a WARNING. He did not kick you for the infraction. Your attitude, according to your post above, is what got you kicked. The infraction was no big deal. If you are not continually breaking the rules, then it is forgotten quickly.
Finally, after reading your initial post, I would have done exactly the same thing as Mr. U. In the future, perhaps responding in a less derogatory manner would net you a better response from our admins. You came back to an area that you knew was occupied by a person that shot you. That is a revenge kill and assault. Do not assume that BGH was not warned as well as we are talking to each other on our Ventrilo server while we play.
I hope that this shows you that we, as admins, do try to enforce the rules of our server consistently. I ask you understand that we can not possibly see everything. If we do not call a foul, it is not due to us playing favorites. It is because we can only watch one player at a time.

Has nothing to do with your conduct in the forums. It was your behavior on the servers as well as your use of a proxy. A ban was called for and I fully agree.

I assume that you did not read my response. I thought that I answered your question fairly reasonably and thoroughly, showing you the rule that you broke.
Now it appears that you are trying to stir the shit pot. In that case, I think it best that you be ignored.
