The lack of enforcement or any penalty

I know i,m still fairley new to the game Unreal tournament, and still have alot to learn about

playing within the game itself. What kept me coming back to the DOU servers are the members

and the atomosphere they create, along with the willingness to help and teach all who are

willing to take the time to learn. With that has come great friendships and some very good times

and gameplay. So when I was asked if i would like to be a member, soley based on who i was

as a person and not on certain skill level, I jumped at the chance.

As a noob coming on your sniper for the first time found it quite easy to learn the rules.

Lets be real here people, how many times during a game is a link to the rules shown to all

who are playing. When a rule is broken, that player is quickly made aware of the fact.

When a player shows up to play on our sniper server its because the rules and policies were

made for a specific type of gameplay. Which makes for a very fun and suspenceful game with

with an overall level of fairness at whatever skill level your at.

As a DOU/dou-r member we are required to know the rules & policies set up specifically

for the sniper server, and abide by them.

So why...why...why.............Someone please enlighten me on this. Are the same problem

players and we all know who they are.Can come on our server and "everyday" and "everytime"

have been warned to the point of loosing count of the times warned, still allowed to come the

next day and break the same rules that we are required to know and abide by.

I,m sure we all at one point have either wittnessed it or have been the victum of a person

breaking the rules. The problem with that is when rule breaking has no real enforcement or

penalty of anykind........and dont think they are,nt aware of that fact....will never stop ever !!

Ahhh, the age-old question... The answer is quite simple. The gametype of camping has rules that are excessive and vague: everyone has a different definition for each rule. Definitions of rules even vary from Clan to Clan. Also, any clan that tries to enforce the rules to the letter has an empty server, including the clan I belong too: [FuN] clan. We have to enforce strict rules on our camping server strictly because of the existance of our No-Rules ZARK server. The only time we see traffic from random guests is when our own members come on to the server and people actually see traffic on it when they are surfing their UT browser. They'll join and play a few. Because of the differences in views about rules, some clans have adopted FraggedNation rules because they are the closest thing to a standardized set of rules the community has. Including DOU, there are only 2 American servers that stand by the classic camping rules but don't use mods to enforce them like the rest of the community has. They are also 2 of the busiest servers out there.

The DOU server has definitely improved over the last 8 weeks. It's a camping server again. Just 2 months ago, DOU server was a nightmare. Even honest players were being scolded for rule-breaking because, out of the chaos, no one could tell who was following the rules and who wasn't. Progress has been made. Keep up the good work and eventually you'll get rid of those few troublemakers left. Have a good one.

I come a few times a week. Usually under aliases. I will identify myself to certain members like Wave and mama if they happen to be on. DM and the Gents from across the pond are usually gone by the time I start playing and Tommy and the rest of the old timers are never around. The rest of you? Don't know any of you. You joined after I left DOU.

Well, I am glad that you are here Draco and It's always fun when you are on as it is when some of our other senior members are. I appreciate that you feel our server is getting better - however some of us that play on it day after day are being run off by the assholes that also frequent it day after day, hour after hour.

And we're sick of it.

If this server has cleaned up like you say Draco, I might start playing there again.

I have a few suggestions. The first thing to look at is if you say you are being run off by A-holes, are those playing with DOU tags/skins playing by the rules. I have found that players will look to those with some affiliation to the clan as the benchmark (I know not something you want to hear).

Once you manage those players, focus on those causing problems and why. Most of the time it is out of frustration but not always. Take some time and encourage the player. You don't have to scold everyone.

After all that, some players just need a good kick in the pants, but be nice about it. I tell all the admins for [FuN]'s camping server if you aren't nice to them as you correct them or kick them from the server they won't be nice to you when they respond or reconnect.

When all else fails, unleash all of hell's furry. But leave that to a known Senior member.

I guarantee I see an improvement. I just got off of the server and there was 12 to 14 other players on there. It was even PizzaShop and that is a downright bloody map at times in a 5v5 much less 14-16 players. Everyone played clean and camped. The trouble-makers get banned. If you have a problem with them coming back, have your server admin contact me and I'll hook you guys up with a much more iron-clad ban system that we use if you don't already use it.

We have made strides forward in some areas but haven't moved forward in others. At first it was difficult to handle the over night popularity we experienced, some of it from hooking up with Game Tracker. We didn't have enough admins to go around so some of our highest volume hours were virtually unsupervised. This turned into total kaos, especially since a lot of servers started closing down and a lot of players went out looking for somewhere else to play.

We tried throwing bodies at it by recruiting a bunch of new admins but without any training and a lack of uniformity of enforcement, it caused almost as many problems as it solved.

We do try to help people along but sadly a large percentage of the players we have problems with never change. Even when they are asked with "Please don't ......" we often get "F.... off", or some other equally dissrespectfull response. A large part of it seems to come from the different expressions of the game form known as camping. Quite a few of the freestyle players believe they are camping when the come here, we don't but they do, ๐Ÿ˜† .

I believe you have to respect another clans right to run their server any way they want. They pay for it, everyone else is just visiting. When I go elsewhere I play by their rules not mine. I wished more people would be considerate when they come here. They don't usually even ask they just start transing around shooting people, but then I'm an old school guy.

We have noticed that we very rarely ever have problems with other clanners no matter the gamestyle. They take too much pride in their tags and understand the responsibility they shoulder by wearing those tags. Virtually every time, the clanner will apologize and take what is said to heart because they don't want to make their clan look bad. The ones we have problems with, more often than not, are regulars having a bad day and the occasional noob who hasn't learned on-line etiquette.

We are also heavy on the ban and that includes our own members who chose not to follow the rules on the camping server. We have banned quite a few members. Most of the time, the offenders learn after the first temp ban. Those who continue get perma-banned. :redflipoff: ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜†

All in all, you guys are doing great and it shows. Everyone work together and the problems will sort themselves out. Have a good one and frag yo ass on the servers, Mama!!!

Really depends on the time you are on I guess. I never get on to play until 10EST since I get home late. I hardly even noticed more problem players the last few months, seemed about the same to me. Usually a few a night to deal with. Sometimes they respond to warnings and sometimes they get kicked. I have been pleasantly surprised in the last month quite a few times by people actually asking that the rules for revenge and assault be defined. Freestylers I think, but they played right after they asked.

Tommy is going to be installing a new controller called NexGen here in the very near future. This controller has a lot of interesting features to it. One of them is the rules feature. With the rules feature, you enter all of your rules into the controller when you install it. One day, you are having an issue with JoeBlow who is assaulting and revenging. You open up the controller and go to the Rules tab. In the player column, it has all the players names. You select JoeBlow out of the list, type in 'No revenging or assaulting! Next offense Gets you banned!!!' into the reason field and hit send. They get this huge box in their screen that shows all the server rules along with the reason you typed. If they don't get the hint, then they either don't understand English or need to get banned anyways. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ˜†

If any of you guys would like a demo of the NexGen controller, hit me up tonight in my TS at 173.45.101.86 and I'll take you on one of the FuN servers and let you check it out with level 5. Have a good one.
