Ripper Owens is a great vocalist but for Iced Earth I prefer Jon Schaffer.
If you haven't heard it when he teams up with Hansi Kürsch of Blind Guardian for Demons and Wizards you need to check them out.
Yeah Schaffer is all about history. He has quite a few iced earth songs that are themed that way. Then he also has another band now called Sons of Liberty that is even more directed. He had the album up for free download so people would get it.
