Read his autobiography. Interesting read. He comes off as regarding the ariel combat like a sport but by the end you can see a change come over him. IMO the day he died he knew hes was doing something foolhardy but he just didn't care anymore and was looking for the end.
Just went looking for the DVD....I guess it bombed in Germany. I've heard the FX and acting are good but it doesn't accurately portray Richthofen's life in the war. The result seems to have been that there has been no release in the States and although there is a version shot in the English language it is very hard to find.
Bummer....looked like a good flick.
Let me know if you find it, I'd be interested in seeing it.
