Actually, the opposite is true. One such idea is to send a small un-manned space vehice/object up to the asteroid, and then apply the forces of something called "mutual gravitational pull" to gently nudge the asteroid into a new path. It would take precise mathematical calculations and plenty of time (at least 6 months), but just altering the course of the asteroid slightly while it is still far out, would most certainly erase it's threat now and in the imaginable future. This is just one such idea that is currently being worked on over at NASA/JPL.

Yup, it's true, there is a nut-job in every clan, lol.
I have never tried it myself, but if what I heard is correct, with a decent telescope you can see the flag that was planted there, it is still erect.
You should rent an old 70's movie called "Capricorn One," it is about faking a space flight. It's actually a pretty good movie too.

I have seen it and the base of the lander through the telescope at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia.

Man, that sounds cool! I wished we had something like that around here. I have always wanted to get a good look at Andromida. And Jupiters great Red Spot...
And if I saw the flag on the moon, it would help me believe.
Back to Apophis. Tommy, can you point me to a link that has info about physicist believing that it will impact. Everything I read says pretty much the same thing. The chances are slim.

I'll see what I can dig up.

Well it's an interesting topic, but I am just thankful I do not work for NASA and am not responsible for solving that crisis.
Here is what NASA thinks the the chances are that Apophis will strike Earth:

You're just jealous because we have good weather and hot females in bikinis. 😉
Anyhow, if Bruce Willis is still around, he can blow it up. 😛
I am sorry Tommy, but I can not find anything on Apophis that says scientist believe that it will actually impact the earth. On a different note, I vote we nuke it anyway. I figure the incredible meteor shower that would result would be worth the radiation fallout.
I can't count the times that I have sat out in the COLD winter night gazing up at the sky after the news said that a "spectacular" meteor shower would be happening. I freeze my boys off to see like 2 meteors.
Pfft.
I want the sky to be FULL of the things. I want one to land at my feet so that I can get it and take it home. Then the alien will hatch out of it, and grant me three wishes....
Yeesh. Allergy medicine messes with my head.

Ya got to wonder as.. 1 the pictures look as if they were posed for and taken by Olin mills.. 2 they were able somehow to get a steel wheeled buggie up there when there was no room to spare..
and 3 They've not been back
It is easy to wonder......lol

What the heck is this??? NASA HOAX???
More or less a joke to say that NASA is doing a great job!
