Bass advice

What a stroke of luck to belong to a clan with other musicians:) Long story short, I bought a super beater bass guitar to keep in the studio. An 80's Yamaha RBX 250. I refinished it so it might look a little better than clown puke and it came out ok. Now I'm trying to learn a few bass techniques. I've been looking at this dude, Victor Wooten. I wanna do that! Can any of you pros give me some tips for how to gain ability with percussive strikes and how I can learn to pull some of that great stuff off? I'm happy with the bass, it's tone and how it plays and I'm not looking to be a bass player but I'd just like to learn some of these slapping type percussive techniques. Here's the refinish project if anyone wants to have a look -

I love Vic Wooten, Have you listened to much bela fleck? Vic is the man when it comes to the double thumb technique. I spent a lot of time with the double thumb and two hand playing like vic. I have vics instructional video, its nice. Maybe somtime we can jump in ts and chat soon. I love bass talk! There is a whole slew of bass players like vic that are just amazing with technique. We'll have to chat soon. Maybe if i could get vhs video converted and put on my pc i could send you the video or I could mail it to you if you will mail it back. Not sure about finding it anymore its from the mid to late 90's.

I have actually been lucky enough to find a bunch of Wooten clips on YouTube including some instructional vids. The guy blows me away. Yes, I recognized him as the Bella bassist before I found out his name. That whole two thumb thing freaks me out lol. I dont' think guitar players in general exactly understand how flexible bass guitar is. I admit I didn't until I decided to try to play one. I've been burried in one of my old fav's the last couple of days...Jaco Pastorius. I found some bootleg audio of a class he gave in Martinique. A little rough on the audio side but it's so candid and interesting to hear. Check it out - http://www.jpbasslessons.com/ I love his use of harmonics on the bass. I'm a huge Joni Mitchell fan and I think she sounded best with Jaco on bass. Something about that fretless Fender that worked perfectly with her stuff. It looks like he always played through Acoustic brand amps...interesting to me. Not an SVT. Hey I'd love to refinish guitars for people but I'm not very confidant in my ability to be consistent with the results. The bass came out ok but I get the distinct feeling a lot of it was good luck.

Vic is the man!!! It took me several hours and quite a few headaches to learn 'Me and My BassGuitar'. There is another bassist named Bill 'The Buddah' Dickens who is an absolute monster, although alot of other bassists in the community hate him with a passion. Something about too many notes. I think it is jealousy. There is a website that I have been a member of for about 6 years now name http://www.activebass.com with thousands of lessons. A website with videos(look under lessons on-line) is http://instituteofbass.com/ . The most important thing to remember while learning Wooten's technique is it is all about effeciency of movement. Hell, I liked to join yalls conversation in TS. Have a good one.

Oh man! Thanks for the links:)!!

For some reason I can only get TS to work sometimes and never while I'm in a game. I haven't even tried using it in ages. I used to use one back in the old Quake 2 days that worked for me, named Game Commander. But I don't think it's around anymore.
