I'll refrain from the debate over whether or not god exists, though evidence suggests not.

Yes, it's unfortunate we are celebrating their deaths due to the fact that some political leaders sent them toward it for usual territorial conquests. Aside from WWII (where defending our country and freedom was a noble and reasonable cause), all the wars beyond that point have been useless and we lost two of them (Vietnam and Korea), or three if you count Desert Storm where Saddam still stood. Even this current Iraq war seems pointless. It's based on false information and its progress and popularity are in the negatives. The whole Afghanistan conflict seems to be another joke, we can't supposedly find this one person, meanwhile the majority of the terrorists were Saudi. The futility of war just goes on and this holiday brings that to light.

The point is that these people died so that you could be able to point out your opinion without having to fear that you would be executed for it.

In the case of WW2, yes, as to the other wars, not necessarily so. Sadly, these days, the military is merely a tool for the rich and powerful and not being properly utilized as a defense of our national borders and constitutional rights -- see Iraq.

The point is that these men and women who have served in the U.S. military are worthy of our respect and praise regardless if it was in the 1770's, 1860's, 1910's or present day.

The point is that these men and women are putting it all on the line regardless of the political motivations of the governments involved. This day I could give two shits as to why they're there. They are in harm's way and we should be thinking about them.

The point is that this day was set aside for THEM as this post was. Not for political debate which is a no-no on these boards if you remember the rules you agreed to.

That is my .02,

Just following orders? That's the #1 excuse by the Nazi's who committed atrocities.

This day I could give two shits as to why they're there. They are in harm's way and we should be thinking about them.

Yah, I'm thinking that they shouldn't be there and about those responsible for putting them in harm's way.

I have no problem honoring the military folks for defending the country -- but really that hasn't been the case since WW2. Right now they are simply tools for the abuse of power by the people who have too much power.

Here's a rule #2 refresher...."2) No politics or religion themed topics should be brought up in the server or on the message boards. If that's your thing, find an organization or club more suited to those topics. This is a gaming clan, we are here to have fun in a relaxed atmosphere."

I believe that also includes hijacking a thread for the same purpose.

And as for taking my comment and twisting it's meaning to compare our men and women to the Nazis.......

I've studied those goose-stepping bastards for many years and I suggest you do the same.

I'm criticizing the idea that we should we should honor a soldier's actions despite any ulterior motivations because they are 'doing their duty'. That kind of attitude promotes sadistic behavior -- for example: see the Nazi's. Until soldier's are given the ability to make a conscience, ethical/moral, choice, as to what orders they will follow, the military will always be used for the abuse of power -- especially since, at this point, there is a complete disassociation from responsibility for those who act and those who order them to act. If my criticism of that attitude is political, than so is the first post of this thread which states the opposite.
