I wrote up a quick how-to tutorial on connecting to IRC. Graphics are included. This is very easy and should take no more than 5 minutes from reading to being online chatting.

Are you using ice chat or the java applet?
I just tried the applet and it works.

NEVER click on links sent to you in irc! Especially not links that are sent in private message... Unless you are really, REALLY sure that it's from a guy you trust AND that he was indeed giving you a link!
I don't know if that has any bearing on your current problem, if not, take it as a general warning 8)
hmm since ur still sending messages i would say that you never clicked on it ??? it sounds like a virus to me probably wrong but as snake says never click on a link unless ur more then 100% about the person sending it esspecially when it has something like "marvin the bot will erase everything" wrote in the link ....lmao
