Yeah - so I saw a documentary on this exact subject about two weeks ago on History Channel. Call me paranoid, but the implications of this seem like they could be much worse than they're letting on. They use the word catastrophic a few times in this article - but they never touch on the obvious... think about what happens when a whole bunch of shit starts falling to earth. 300/400 miles isn't that far up there...
