Lost a good friend today,

He is going to go hang out with Barkley.

Never thought I would be this upset over a dog.

Oh Wave - I'm sorry bud.

We have three dogs currently and we also do rescue for Labs and Bloodhounds here in the SC. Some of the most heartbreaking moments are those when an animal has to be put down because it's been deemed un-adoptable. We recently got in a Bloodhound that was used for training puppy Pits to maim. They have a lot of extra skin for the pits to learn how to grab hold of another dog and hold on. And it's not so uncommon for these freak ass rednecks down here to come up with some f'd up BS like that. It's extremely heartbreaking. We have some come through that stay here for ten months, become a part of the "family unit", you see them progress into great animals daily and then they get adopted. That's pretty brutal too. Frequently remember the great life that I'm sure your dog had with you!

My oldest though, is Alice. She's a 13yr old Black Lab that I got as a puppy. Recently she's become incontinent and the damage to her heart from heart worms as a puppy causes her to go into violent coughing fits now. She was an athlete when she was much younger and now she struggles not to bust her ass making it across the linoleum in the kitchen. Man it is tough! Her day is coming soon as well and I fully expect to be an absolute wreck when it does. Perhaps our doggies will be able to share that big-ole chew toy in the sky, knock over some golden trash cans, and poop all they want on whomever's carpet they wish. ...Damn - that sounds kinda good to ME!

Best wishes on getting through this Wave, I haven't known you for long but my heart still goes out.

Know exactly how you feel. My pooch is to the point where a decision needs to be made.

I know 16 years is a long time for a dog but it is still very hard to say good-bye.

Sorry to hear about your dog, Wave. Was he the one we heard freaking out getting excited) all the time? I feel sorry for people who don't have dogs, they will never understand how profound the statement "Mans best friend" is.

Ya, there is this unconditional love a dog has. You could be so pissed at him and he will still come over and lick your balls.

The house is so quiet right now, even though we have 3 other dogs. The other dogs are missing him also.

I still get a little sick to my stomach thinking about him. I keep looking for him to come into the room and look at me with

those hound dog eyes asking for a walk.

We are beginning to laugh at some of the things he used to do, so I think the grieving is coming to an end.

Is anyone else seeing a headless dog or is it just my computer? When I tried adding an image / picture it did the same to me.
